Tang Li Yue smiled faintly.
"Expensive medicine."
His eyes sharpened. "That was not ordinary medicine."
"Obviously. Ordinary medicine is cheaper."
"Li Yue."
Lu Chengran's voice carried a warning.
Tang Li Yue gave him an innocent look. "What? I am answering his question."
"You are provoking."
"It's called multi-tasking."
Major Lin inhaled slowly, though he did not look offended. "I understand that whatever happened tonight is not something you wish to explain."
"Very good. Your comprehension is improving."
"But I also have a responsibility to my men."
"And I have a responsibility to my farmhouse."
The words settled between them.
Major Lin looked at Tang Li Yue for a long moment. The porch light made the shadows beneath his eyes more obvious, but his gaze remained steady. He was reassessing her again. Not merely as a survivor. Not merely as Lu Chengran's companion.
As someone who had rules. Someone who could become a danger if those rules were crossed.
Then he nodded.
