Chapter 9 - Vow's of a Lifetime

The time seems to be slowing as the wedding between the two souls begins, a solemn promise witnessed by the crowded church. High above, the heavy iron chandeliers sway slightly, casting a warm, amber glow over the rows of dark-eyed onlookers. His eyes were looking at her, completely mesmerized by the ethereal beauty of the woman he chose for a lifetime. The white silk of her dress catches the light with every step she takes, making her look almost translucent against the dark, ancient stone of the sanctuary. The world stops for a moment, long enough for him to notice that this woman is finally going to be his for life.

As she walked down the aisle, he was completely lost in the clouds. He has been waiting for this exact moment, because from the very beginning, he has set his eyes on her. He remembers the very first time he saw her in the fields of Lagarte, a vibrant bloom in a world he found dull. He never planned to let her go, as capturing her heart was what he wanted from the start. A faint smirk plays on his lips, a subtle curving of his mouth that feels like his grand plan is already in motion. He always gets what he wants, moving through life with a quiet arrogance, without even thinking about the consequences of his actions or who might get hurt along the way. There is no escape route for her now, and this marriage will be a beautiful cage he carefully set, lined with velvet but made of iron nonetheless. It is a grand stage where everyone else, from the village elders to Kelly herself, is just pieces and pawns on a chessboard, all moved perfectly to secure his deepest desire.

Her hands seem to be trembling as she finally reaches the steps of the altar, the pale fabric of her sleeves shaking against the stems of her roses. The tears in her eyes are visible even through the sheer fabric of the veil, catching the flicker of the altar candles like tiny shards of glass. She is incredibly nervous and anxious at the same time, overwhelmed by the suffocating gravity of the room and the heavy gaze of the Laurdy clan pressing against her back.

Sensing her fear, Aiden steps forward, closing the distance between them. He took her hand gently, his fingers warm and steady against her icy skin, and gave his sweetie a soft kiss on the knuckles. The brush of his lips is reassuring, a familiar anchor in a sea of terrifying unknowns. To calm her down, he smiles, looking straight into her eyes with absolute intensity. His pitch-black eyes, empty of the blue light that defines his family, seem to open up, offering her a private sanctuary away from the crowd. For a fleeting moment, their hearts are in perfect sync, feeling each other's warmth and thoughts across the short distance between them. The panic in her chest begins to recede, replaced by the profound truth of what they share. She then gives her beautiful smile, her eyes shining through the tears as she tilts her head up to meet his gaze. They are ready to give their vows, sealing their promises to each other.

They then face the altar with happiness and genuine feelings for each other, leaving the shadows of doubt behind for a brief moment. The priest steps forward, his heavy robes rustling against the stone floor as he raises his hands in a silent blessing. The people of Bial watch in total silence, the collective breath of the village held as they witness the sacred matrimony. With the ancient altar before them and the scent of incense heavy in the air, they take their solemn vows to each other.

Aiden clears his throat, his voice deep and resonant, echoing off the high vaulted ceilings of the church as he speaks directly to her heart.

"I, Aiden Laurdy, take Kelly Buenavista as my wife, my missing piece that is now with me. I will love you in the lowest and in the highest. I will give you my heart and soul. You are my wife, and I will respect you and protect you. I will always be by your side. I will provide you a shade for you to grow, acting as your strongest shield and the toughest ship that can sail in the storm. I will be your pillow, and in our hardest battle, you can always cry on me. I love you, and I always will."

The words hang in the air, thick with a possessive devotion that makes Kelly's chest tighten in a mix of affection and awe. He slips a heavy gold band onto her finger, the metal cool and unyielding.

Kelly looks up at him, the tremor leaving her hands as she draws strength from her own ancestry, her voice steadying as she recites her own heart to the man she has chosen.

"From the bottom of my heart, and for my goddess and ancestors, I, Kelly Buenavista, swear in the future full of unknowns I will love you, Aiden Laurdy, and take you as my husband in this life. I will give you light in the darkest storm in the sea. I will be your spear in the battlefield. I will be a bed that gives you comfort for the rainy days. I will be with you in times of peace and war. I will fall for you over and over again. My hands will give you confidence in times of uncertainty. I love you today, tomorrow, and when the universe no longer exists."

As the final words leave her lips, a sudden gust of wind sweeps through the open doors of the church, causing the flames of the candles to dance wildly. The music of the lute and harp swells to a beautiful, triumphant climax, filling every corner of the grand hall. Aiden reaches out, his hands gently lifting the edge of her white veil, folding it back to reveal her face to the world and to him.

The crowd behind them erupts into a sea of murmurs and soft applause, the elders nodding in approval as the union is officially sealed in the eyes of their traditions. Kelly looks past Aiden for a brief second, seeing the Mistress of the house watching them from the front pew with those piercing, midnight-blue eyes, smiling a serene, knowing smile. But Kelly quickly looks back to Aiden, choosing to focus on the warmth of his grip rather than the chilling legends of the family she has just joined.

This is the reality she has accepted. Hand in hand, they turn to face the congregation as husband and wife, stepping into a future written in folklore and blood, ready to face whatever storms the valley of Bial has waiting for them.
