Brand's eyes moved and his teeth clenched.

She stood at the edge with Guy, leaning over a barrel as the lad held it steady. When she straightened, the breeze caught her hair, lifting it away from her face. Guy gestured with one hand as he spoke and she burst into laughter.
Brand swallowed. Hard.
Ramsay hummed thoughtfully. "Not a beholder, I'll say, but possesses a beautiful smile." He said. "A traveller?"
"A member of my crew," Brand said tightly.
Ramsay's brow hitched. "Another employee? The Rescuer grows generous."
"It so happened."
He waggled a brow, "The first, the wife of your foreman. And the second, say, is she the mistress of your quartermaster? How magnanimous of you."
Brand's hands clenched at his side. "Do not be crass, O'Neill," he said sharply. "She is not Lawrence's mistress."
"His intended? I never saw your quartermaster as a man to submit to the whims of love and marriage so soon."
