Roland and the others made a victorious return and the whole city was celebrating their success.
"Had fun I take it?" I asked as Brick walked up with a grin plastered on his face.
"We killed a lot of bitches!" he said happily.
I chuckled "It was probably mostly bots though right?" I asked and he nodded.
"A wins a win. That should keep Jack off our backs for a while at any rate." Roland said as he walked up.
"Can't argue with that. I won't be sticking around for long anyways since I only have a few days off from running my company and while I'd love to stay and hang out I kinda want to use my vacation tying up loose ends." I said calmly.
"Shame, it's nice having you around again. Makes things feel less hopeless. Hell you've only been here for an afternoon and the moonshot that's been our biggest headache is gone." he said regretfully.
"Meh, it's not that bad. At most i'm only a single long distance echo away." I said with a shrug.
"Once this is all over I might see about stopping by Promethea and seeing what you've done with the place, heard some interesting things so far." he said with a small smile.
"I'll come too!" Brick chimed in with a grin.
"I'll roll out the red carpet in that case. Won't do to have my friends show up in anything but style. If you take long enough you might even be able to go play around in my upcoming hobby moon amusement station." I said with a smile.
"No idea what that is but sounds interesting." Roland said raising an eyebrow.
"Ask Moxxi here, most of it was her idea. I'm just bankrolling the whole thing." I said with a shrug pointing at Moxxi.
After that there was a grand celebration for this blow struck against Jack after Moxxi filled Roland in on the plan. I slipped out quietly though while everyone was partying as that was the best time.
"Leaving without saying goodbye first?" Lil asked when she caught me leaving Sanctuary.
"It's better this way, I hate goodbyes." I said with a shrug.
"I get it. Turns out being dead? Not as liberating as it sounds, lonely really. You take care and i'll catch you later." She said with a wave before walking off.
I teleported away after that to the leagues camp. Vater and few dozen others were there and greeted me eagerly. I ignored most of them and spoke with Vater specifically to find out which sites the league still had control of. The answer was sixteen of them and one that was of particular interest for a single reason, it had a vault. The site was located on a small island off the coast of the northern shelf buried under a lot of ice and snow. They wouldn't have even found it if a fisherman from that area hadn't been pissing on the frozen chunk and fell into the ruins thanks to weakening the ice enough to collapse under his weight.-
A ridiculous coincidence perhaps but you'd be amazed how often things like that happen on Pandora. I got a rough description of the other fifteen ruins that the league controlled and directly wrote off half of them as pointless to visit as they sounded like communal areas rather than anything really worthwhile. The others were either Seraph production sites, warrior trials or lore archives. I got Vater to mark them all on my map and then took off to the sky to take care of them.-
I stopped at the Seraph sites and jailbroke the spawners to make Seraphs loyal to myself that I stashed in my house. This gave me an additional thirty seven of the things that when added to the ones I had before gave me one hundred and six total. Of that previous sixty nine seraphs I had most of them set to patrol and guard the vault that was unopened on Promethea. I only had two parts of the Promethea key so I couldn't open it but finding it was laughably easy.-
As it turned out the old Atlas corporation paved right over the damn thing in Meridian city. Ironically right under their fucking noses metaphorically speaking since that was also where their headquarters were. Admittedly it was buried deep down there under Apollyon train station in a small cave system but Tannis sniffed it out within a day of coming to work for me. The Seraphs there were summarily dismantled and replaced with my own so no one got any funny ideas. Not enough to stop any really skilled or powerful individual but enough to prove annoying at least.-
Anyways I moved on from the Seraph sites while relieving those league members there and grabbed the lore sites next. There was a bit more on the Destroyer and even a small hint at what happened to the Eridians themselves. It was vague as the race liked to be but roughly went that they were forever standing vigil over the great vault in hopes the beast within never tasted freedom again. If I didn't know what I did I might take this to mean they were literally guarding the great vault but I was fairly certain that was wrong.-
I wasn't totally clear on it but I had a chilling feeling that the race was gone, dead, extinct. I hoped not since that would mean that race of hyper intelligent beings were so helpless against the Destroyer they thought the death of their entire race was their only option. I suppose I couldn't fault them if the destroyers nature was truly similar to a sirens in that it held a true aspect of the universe under it's control. If it did then in theory killing it would only cause a new creature just like it to be born at random in the universe, containment was the only option.-
Well actually there was another option but since most of the Eridians weren't aware of it's existence at the time most likely they wouldn't have known. I am of course referring to my own powers. If the problem is that killing the monster released it's power back into the universe uncontrollably then you simply need something to take it's place thus maintaining universal balance and preventing a new creature from being born. My powers do exactly that since I take the traits and lifeforce of the things I use them on. The real problem was how to kill the thing to begin with.
