🐦🔥 [ Phoenix ☯ POV ] 🐦🔥
By the time Phoenix reached Theo Blackwood's group, Aaron's glittering social shield had already done its work. Phoenix had been seen, welcomed, and introduced without once appearing to chase attention. Now came the harder part: greeting his fellow chefs under cameras sharp enough to turn a breath into a storyline.
Solaris sighed with dramatic pride. 'My Mama is terrifyingly good at being adorable on purpose.'
Phoenix chose a small group of four standing near one of the jade-and-bronze tables. Three alphas and one omega, all dressed with enough polish to suggest strong sponsors or excellent family backing. He approached slowly, stopping just outside the circle with a shy, respectful smile that made his eyes crinkle at the corners.
He kept his aura gentle, humble, and nonthreatening. Beautiful enough to attract attention. Soft enough to invite protection. Polite enough that any rejection would look worse on the person giving it than on him.
The tallest alpha noticed him first. He was broad-shouldered and handsome, with deep green hair, warm brown eyes flecked with honey, and the steady presence of someone used to being listened to without needing to raise his voice.
"Hello," the alpha said, his voice calm and inviting. "Would you like to join us? We were just introducing ourselves and breaking the ice."
Phoenix lifted his gaze just long enough to meet the alpha's eyes, then lowered it again with a small flustered smile. "Thank you. I am sorry if I interrupted. I wanted to greet my fellow contestants and cast members, especially the other chefs, but I did not want to be rude."
Before the alpha could answer, the omega woman beside him gave a soft, derisive snort.
The sound was tiny, but the timing, the angle of Andromeda's chin, and her glance toward the nearest lens made the insult deliberate.
Phoenix's smile did not move. Inside, however, his opinion of the woman dropped with impressive speed. A snort could indicate nerves, disdain, habit, or bad manners, but Andromeda's deliberate performance told him enough to take note.
'Solaris,' he said sweetly through the bond, 'make sure the left-side observation camera keeps a clean angle.'
'Already done,' Solaris replied, sounding offended that Phoenix had thought he needed reminding. 'Give me one breath... public profile says Andromeda Sunflare, sponsor darling, excellent family backing, very polished image. Aura says jealous little storm cloud dipped in overwatered perfume.'
'Noted,' Phoenix replied. He let the information settle without letting judgment show on his face. 'Then we give her room to choose what kind of impression she wants to leave.'
He let uncertainty flicker across his face as if the snort had truly wounded him. His shoulders drew in by the smallest degree. His fingers touched lightly against his chest. When he looked up again, his eyes were misty but dignified, hurt without becoming helpless.
"I sincerely apologize if I overstepped," Phoenix said softly. "I only wished to exchange names and a few words with the people I will be working beside during the program. Since production encouraged us to become familiar with one another before tomorrow's official partner-reveal broadcast and full filming schedule, I thought a brief introduction would be acceptable."
His smile trembled just enough to look real. "If I was mistaken, I am sorry for disturbing you. Please have a pleasant afternoon."
Phoenix bowed with restrained grace, low enough to be respectful and long enough for the cameras to savor every second of discomfort around him. "Joesonghamnida," he said softly.
When he straightened, Phoenix kept his eyes lowered, spine straight, and expression composed. He turned as if to leave before anyone could embarrass themselves further.
"Please wait," the green-haired alpha said quickly.
Phoenix stopped, but did not immediately turn back. The hesitation was careful: polite enough to obey, hurt enough to make the green-haired alpha's intervention feel necessary without begging for it.
The alpha looked toward Andromeda, displeasure sharpening his gaze. When he turned back to Phoenix, his voice was still calm, but there was iron under the courtesy. "You do not need to leave, and you certainly did not need to apologize. You did nothing wrong."
Phoenix let a pause settle before looking back. "Thank you for saying so."
The alpha's expression softened by a fraction. "I understand if you still wish to go, but may I at least know your name? I am Theo Blackwood."
Before Phoenix could answer, Bai Yu Ning's clear voice cut gently through the moment. "Phoenix-ssi, there you are. We should go, or you will be late for your next appointment."
Phoenix turned toward her, relief softening his face in a way that would look painfully sincere on every concealed observation feed, including the restricted Very Important Viewing Pavilion reserved for elite patrons. "Of course, Bai Yu Ning-ssi. Thank you for finding me."
He looked back to Theo and gave a small, apologetic bow. "Please excuse me. I have a prior appointment, so I must leave first. It was nice to meet you, Theo Blackwood-ssi. I hope everyone has a good afternoon."
Bai Yu Ning fell into step beside him at once, small and composed and unmistakably protective. Phoenix did not look back as they crossed the banquet hall toward the exit, but Solaris did.
'Theo Blackwood is watching,' Solaris reported. 'Interested. Curious. Slightly dazzled. Andromeda Sunflare is about to do something unwise.'
'Let her,' Phoenix replied.

[ Theo Blackwood's POV ]
From across the room, Theo remained staring after Phoenix long after Bai Yu Ning guided him through the doors. He had met beautiful people before. He had grown up around heirs, actors, influencers, sponsored chefs, and polished darlings trained since childhood to turn charm into currency.
Phoenix was different.
Not because he was soft. Theo doubted the softness was all there was. The omega had moved like someone carefully choosing which parts of himself the room was allowed to see. Polite. Wounded. Graceful. Strategic, perhaps, though Theo could not yet prove it. That made him more interesting, not less.
"Brother Theo..." Andromeda said sweetly, reaching for his sleeve.
Theo avoided her touch without looking down. "Andromeda Sunflare, you were out of line."
Her smile faltered. "Brother Theo, I only—"
"You were rude to someone who approached politely," Theo said. "That disappoints me."
He turned to the other two alphas in the group. "Caelum, Atlas, shall we go check our rooms?"
Caelum and Atlas exchanged a look, then answered at the same time, "Gladly."
The three men walked away, leaving Andromeda standing alone beneath the warm banquet hall lights with her expression twisting between humiliation and fury.
For one dangerous second, Andromeda seemed to remember where she was. Then jealousy won.
"Who does he think he is?" Andromeda hissed, voice rising far beyond discretion. "Acting innocent with that face, pretending to be humble so everyone will pity him. Brother Theo saw through people like that before. He will see through him too."
A few heads turned as a nearby camera drone dipped lower with predatory enthusiasm.
Andromeda did not notice. "Some people only know how to climb by using their looks. I bet he thinks batting his lashes is enough to steal attention that belongs to people who actually earned their place here."
Across the hall, Aaron Van Schrimsher IV paused with his entourage and turned his head slowly, as if an offensive sound had disturbed the harmony of the universe.
"Goodness," Aaron announced brightly, loud enough for several microphones to enjoy. "Is there a banshee trapped in the ventilation system, or is someone auditioning for the role of jealous background noise?"
His entourage froze, then collectively decided not to laugh with admirable discipline. Aaron adjusted his sunglasses and gave Andromeda a side glance sharp enough to cut silk. "Come along. I suddenly require somewhere peaceful, refined, and several corridors away from shrieking."
By the time Andromeda realized the insult had landed on her, Aaron was already walking away.
Her face flushed crimson. She spun toward the opposite exit, communicator already raised. "Father, I was humiliated," she cried as the doors opened for her. "I did nothing wrong, and everyone is being cruel to me!"
The doors slid closed behind her, and the banquet hall entered the delicate stage of pretending no one had witnessed anything at all.
Most participants believed the spectacle had ended there. They were wrong.
Above the public feeds, beyond access locks, sponsor seals, and the cultivated discretion of imperial entertainment, the V.I.V.P. had preserved every second. By the time Phoenix reached the corridor with Bai Yu Ning, the pavilion's hidden chat had stirred into a jeweled storm of outrage, amusement, and delighted scandal. Viewers clipped his bow, Theo's intervention, Andromeda's unraveling, and Aaron's banshee comment into polished replay loops that multiplied faster than production could plausibly contain.

Within the Very Important Viewing Pavilion, star insignias marked a viewer's patronage tier: ★ for Pavilion members granted standard observation access, ★★ for premium patrons with expanded commentary privileges, and ★★★ for imperial-level benefactors whose generous contributions purchased both prestige and the dangerous confidence to speak freely beneath the empire's most exclusive gaze.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: GlitterKnife ★★★]: Production said "mind your words," and Andromeda heard "audition for the villain edit."
[V.I.V.P. Chat: SilkTeaSpill ★★]: Aaron heard one screech and chose couture violence with impeccable posture.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: BlanketCapeHero ★★★]: Phoenix bowed once and somehow founded three fan clubs, two ships, and a protective militia.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: CameraGoblin ★]: Andromeda, sweetie, the cameras were on. The cameras were very on.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: SnackCourtWitness ★★]: I came for cooking and snacks. Why am I now emotionally invested in table-side social warfare?
[V.I.V.P. Chat: ModFilterMedic ★]: Someone send aid to the moderation filters. They are losing the war with dignity.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: PhoenixBlanketFund ★★★]: Phoenix Protection Squad enrollment is now open. Uniform: blanket cape. Weapon: righteous indignation.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: SocialCraterSurveyor ★★]: Phoenix said "please excuse me" and left behind a fully mapped social crater.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: PoliteViolenceEnjoyer ★★]: I adore when someone weaponizes manners so gently the target feels obligated to thank them for the privilege.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: VillainEditSommelier ★★★]: Notes of jealousy, entitlement, and tragic microphone awareness. A disastrous vintage. Ten out of ten.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: TableSevenHistorian ★]: Future historians will mark this as the moment Andromeda lost the room, the hallway, and several viewers' patience.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: MovieEmperor'sForgottenConcubine ★★★]: Why is nobody talking about how handsome my hubby is! I could feel his superior aura through the livestream. Ahhh, I could stare into those eyes for a lifetime and still not get enough.
[V.I.V.P. Chat: OffTopicAlarmBell ★]: Respectfully, beloved, we are discussing social warfare at table seven. Please return your imaginary marriage certificate to the delusion drawer.

Some viewers mourned Phoenix's wounded smile. Others praised Theo for stepping in. A loud and rapidly growing faction declared Aaron an icon for saying what everyone else had been thinking. And, naturally, the first ship names appeared almost instantly: TheoNix for the viewers who liked things clean and classic, EmeraldFlame for the romantics already building dramatic edits, Pharon for the cute-name crowd, BansheeShield for the Aaron defenders laughing too hard in chat, and The Phoenix Protection Squad for everyone who had immediately decided Phoenix must be wrapped in blankets and guarded from rude heiresses at all costs.
Phoenix knew none of what had unfolded in the hidden chat. He only walked beside Bai Yu Ning with his expression composed, his envelope secure, and Solaris cackling silently through the bond like a tiny deity who had just watched fate trip over a camera cable.
