A few days had passed since Maddie arrived at the pack house. Her abilities still not fully known to Seraiya.
Seraiya sat in her office. It was a boring task... Working on paper work... But it was a necessary one. It wasn't long before Seraiya noticed 2 purple eyes peaking in through her doorway. When Seraiya looked up she noticed how quickly they disappeared. "Michael!" Seraiya called for her beta. Michael quickly walked down the hall before stopping by Maddie who put her finger over her mouth telling him to keep quiet.
Michael smiled before giving her a nod, and entering the office.
"silentium" said Seraiya making any sound in the room become unheard.
"How is she adjusting?" She asked simply. "She's a curious girl" Michael said looking at the door. "She's a lot like you" he added.
Seraiya sighed as she stood from her desk. "I hope not" she said. "For her own sake" she added. "Why don't you take some time and show her around?" Michael asked. "That's not a bad idea, but if I do it I worry something may happen" she replied walking around the desk. "Someone actively trying to kill me again could put her in danger and I promised I would protect her" she continued.
"You can't stay in hiding forever you know" he told her. Seraiya sighed "I know that... I just worry... And for good reason" she said. "If she really is as like me as you claim than she's in for one hell of a ride."
Seraiya stood from her desk. "Alpha" her delta said entering the room. "What is it?" Seraiya asked. "There's a man here to see you, said his Derrick" her Delta said. Seraiya sighed.
"Send him him in, then I'll show Maddie around" She said before looking at Michael.
They both left the room, and a moment later Derrick entered, and closed the door behind him.
"How have you been?" Derrick asked. "I can't your mate" seraiya said straight forwardly. "Pardon?" Derrick questioned. "I'm sorry, I really am" she told him. "But... I had a mate, one who I loved more than anything and when I lost her my entire life shattered" she said. "Her?" He questioned "and don't get me wrong it's not that I'm not into men because I am" she continued "but I just don't want another mate" she said honestly
Derrick was silent for a moment. "Your rejecting me then?" He finally spoke. "I want you to reject me actually" she replied. "If you reject me you won't be in any pain" she added. "But you will be" he said grabbing her hand gently. She placed her other hand on top of his. "I assure you that it is nothing I can't handle" she replied with a light smile.
"I'm sorry Seraiya but I cannot reject you" he told her. "I will not put my mate in more pain than you have already suffered" he continued. "I am telling you it is alright" she said. "No, I will give you more time to reconsider before we do this" he said stubbornly before walking out of the room without leaving her a chance to reply.
Seraiya couldnt help but sigh as she leaned against her desk. Suddenly her door creeked open and she could see Maddie peak her head through the crack. "Я слышал, вы собирались показать мне город?" Said Maddie in Russian. "You know Russian as well?" Seraiya asked. Maddie nodded.
"To answer your question..." Seraiya said walking over to the door and opening it. "Yes im showing you around" she answered. "How do you know Russian anyway?" She asked Maddie looking down at her curiously. "How do you?" Maddie asked.
Seraiya was silent for a moment before taking in a deep breath. "When I was 12 I was taken from my home and brought to Russia to be sold on the black market" she told Maddie.
When I managed to escape an older couple found me and for the short time I stayed with them I learned Russian, I even used a spell to help me learn it a bit faster" she added. "How are you an alpha of your a witch?" Maddie asked.
"I'm not just a witch" seraiya told her. "I'm also part wolf and part vampire, though my vampire part hasn't been... Awoken yet I guess is the best way to put it" she told Maddie.
"I don't know what I am" Maddie said unsure. "They say I'm not a witch although I can use magic, but I also don't shift into a wolf" she continued. "What do you shift into?" Seraiya asked. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" Maddie replied. "Try me" Seraiya said.
That was when Maddie looked her in the eyes. "I'll show you" she said before taking a step back. "Close your eyes!" She told seraiya who did as she said.
After a moment of silence Seraiya opened her eyes, to see not Maddie in her human form. But in a form she didn't know was possible. "You turn into a fox!" Seraiya said with surprise.
Maddie quickly turned back into her human form. "I know you haven't seen anything like it" Maddie said with a look of pain. "Your unique and different and that's ok" Seraiya told her reassuringly. "No matter what you are, what magic you have or what animal you turn into that doesn't change the fact that I promised to protect you" Seraiya added.
"How about you and I go out for some lunch?" She asked I heard you haven't eaten all day"
Maddie nodded. And Seraiya smiled before turning to look at shadow. So much time had passed. And whenever she looked into Maddie's eyes she could not only see herself in them but someone she once loved as well. Someone who was now just a memory.
Seraiya wouldn't let Maddie go through the kind of suffering she went through. She would protect Maddie. Like a mother protecting her child, she would not let Maddie suffer.
Not like she did.
