Finished applying the medication, and by the time Aldana Candi came in again, it was already half past eight.
He lay on the bed with his eyes closed, hearing the noise, and weakly opened his eyes. The drip included sedative and pain relief medication, but the pain from applying the medicine still left his spirits diminished, and he seemed dispirited.
"Sleep," she said softly, walking over and holding his hand.
He slightly closed his eyes, his voice as faint as a mosquito's hum: "You promised you'd stay with me until nine."
"Alright, sleep now. I'll stay here with you until nine."
Philip Shaw slowly opened his eyes, looked at Aldana Candi gently, then, as if exhausted, slowly closed his eyelids again. His breathing gradually became even, no longer disturbed by pain.
Aldana Candi looked at his face, damp with cold sweat, took a tissue and gently wiped his cheek. A nurse nearby walked over and said, "Miss Candi, let me handle this. Mr. Shaw is already asleep; you can take a rest."
