The man continued to leer at us, but it was gradually replaced by curiosity.
"Antique merchants, you say?" he finally asked, his voice low to keep people from overhearing.
Vadim held out his family's relic. "We've come across a piece of pottery with a style that seems to blend Taahid elements with something... older, more unique. We were hoping you might be able to shed some light on its origins."
The scholar grabbed the magnefying glass that sat by his stone tablets and leaned in to look at the relic. He took it carefully, his eyes widening slightly as he examined the patterns. "Fascinating... I haven't seen this kind of pottery before. But these spirals... they look familiar somehow. Let me go over my notes."
We watched as he rummaged through a bag full of papyrus scrolls. He pulled one out and then looked back at the tablets.
"These spirals... They are like the ones here," he said, pointing to some carvings on a stone tablet.
