Dafa's arm stayed wrapped around my waist, supporting me as I limped down the narrow attic stairs. Each step sent a dull ache through my ankle, but having him there, solid and steady, made it bearable. The wooden steps creaked under our combined weight, a familiar sound that felt almost welcoming after a week of silence.
"Lets go home, now. You need to take a rest."
He was right. I was running on fumes. The events of the past days had taken their toll. And my ankle, twisted during the chaos, throbbed in protest with every step.
"You're going to baby me the whole way, aren't you?" I murmured, a small smile tugging at my lips.
"Absolutely," he replied without hesitation. "Consider it pre-honeymoon training. I'm practicing my attentive husband skills."
I laughed softly, the sound strange in my own ears after so many days of quiet recovery. "Attentive husband skills include counting stairs?"
