"You can't go alone, Alayna. I'm going with you," Dafa said, his voice firm, as he caught up to me in the hallway.
I stopped as I turned to face him. "Dafa, you don't have to do this, I know you're busy. And I promised I wouldn't be reckless."
He scoffed, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Yeah, and I believe you," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Look, Alayna, I know you. And I know you're going to do whatever it takes to save other people, even if it means putting yourself in danger. I can't let you go out there alone. Moreover with your ankle condition."
He paused, his expression turning serious. "Besides," he added, his voice low, "As a soldier, I'm responsible for this. It was me who was appointed by the minister to handle this case, and I'm not about to let it spiral out of control. I need to be there, Alayna. I need to see this through."
"Okay, let's go," I said, my voice firm.
