Chapter 116
Building Nightmares Out of Shadows
The air in the room thickened, heavy with the weight of Lilith's words.
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. What was there to say?
'I'm sorry he saw me in you?' That would only grind salt into an open wound.
'I never meant for this to happen?' Meaningless.
Intentions were just like ghost stories we told ourselves to sleep at night. Reality was what stood in front of me now, the wreckage in her eyes.
So I stayed silent, a statue of guilt, while Lilith stared out the window at a freedom that had never truly existed.
Mother stood there, her smile stretched too tight, her eyes flicking between us like a spectator watching a match she refused to understand.
"Stop fighting," she said sharply. "It's all happened already. It's in the past. There's no need to dig deeper and hurt each other like this. Don't forget that you're sisters." Her voice dropped, urgent and hushed.
The word hit like a curse.
Sisters.
