The air was still. The grass beneath their feet barely moved, as if the entire world was holding its breath. The Core Seven stood at the center of the open field, surrounded by their citizens, soldiers, and warriors, all of them watching, waiting for an explanation that refused to come. Confusion reigned in the hearts of the people, and even the mighty Core Seven were unsure of what to do next.
Suddenly, a sound broke through the silence—not a physical sound, but a presence, a voice that echoed in every mind simultaneously. It wasn't harsh or violent. It was cold, like a gust of wind from the void itself, carrying with it the weight of centuries. It filled every corner of the now-empty Corintopia, surrounding the citizens, the soldiers, and the Core Seven.
The voice was unmistakable.
Tel-Nu.
"You stand here, surrounded by what you once called home," the voice began, smooth as silk but carrying a terrible gravity, "and yet, all that you've built lies in ruin. All the walls, the towers, the defenses... gone, like whispers in the wind. But I did not come here to bring ruin to flesh and blood. Not yet."
A collective gasp ran through the crowd. Citizens clutched one another, soldiers gripped their weapons tighter, and the Core Seven exchanged tense glances. The voice continued, ignoring the fear that spread like wildfire through the people.
"You thought you were safe. That your walls would protect you. That your strength would defend you. But you never understood, did you?" Tel-Nu's voice seemed to grow darker, more intimate, as though he were speaking directly to the hearts of the Core Seven. "You never had a chance to fight me. You are nothing but specks of dust before me, fleeting particles in the vastness of existence."
The people began to murmur, confusion mounting. Delson Sr. took a step forward, his jaw clenched as he looked to his comrades. He felt the weight of the voice, the inescapable truth of it. Tel-Nu wasn't a mere threat. He wasn't an enemy they could defeat with strength or tactics. He was beyond them. Far beyond them.
And now, everyone knew it.
"You," Tel-Nu continued, his voice cutting through the murmurs like a blade. "The self-proclaimed Core Seven, protectors of humanity. You built this place, this... utopia. You promised the people safety, a future. And yet, here you stand, surrounded by the remnants of your lies. Tell them the truth."
The Core Seven exchanged nervous glances. Junna's hand gripped the hilt of her sword tightly, her knuckles white. Kira's eyes darted between her comrades, searching for answers that none of them had. Dmitri crossed his arms over his chest, his face a mask of controlled fury. They had no idea what Tel-Nu was talking about.
Finally, it was Delson Sr. who spoke. His voice was strong, though there was a hint of uncertainty behind his words.
"We don't know what you're talking about, Tel-Nu," Delson Sr. declared, stepping forward to address the crowd as much as the disembodied voice. "We built this city—this sanctuary—to protect the people. To rebuild after the apocalypse. Everything we've done has been for them, for humanity!"
The people in the crowd listened intently, some nodding in agreement, others still confused. They had trusted the Core Seven for years, believed in them, fought for them. Could there be something more? Could Tel-Nu be telling the truth?
For a moment, the world was still again. The wind seemed to die completely, and the sky above darkened as if the very universe was waiting for Tel-Nu's response.
Then it came.
One word.
Cold. Sharp. Final.
"Liars."
The word rang out like a thunderclap, echoing in the minds of everyone present. The sheer weight of it pressed down on the crowd, making it hard to breathe. The Core Seven recoiled as if struck by an invisible force.
"Liars," Tel-Nu repeated, his voice now filled with venom. "You claim ignorance, but I see through your lies. I see into your hearts. You built this city not to protect the people, but to protect yourselves. To shield yourselves from the consequences of your own actions."
A wave of confusion and fear spread through the citizens. Whispers filled the air as they looked to the Core Seven for answers, but none were given. The Core Seven stood frozen, their eyes wide with disbelief.
"You know what you did," Tel-Nu continued, his voice growing more powerful with each word. "You know the truth of what happened to this world. But instead of facing that truth, you buried it beneath stone walls and false promises. You told yourselves that you were the saviors of humanity, when in reality, you were its downfall."
"No!" Junna shouted, stepping forward, her face flushed with anger. "We protected these people! We fought for them! We—"
"Enough." Tel-Nu's voice cut her off, cold and absolute. "You may have fooled them for a time, but you cannot fool me. You cannot hide from the consequences of your actions forever. The time has come for the truth to be revealed."
The Core Seven stood in stunned silence. Around them, the citizens and soldiers of Corintopia began to murmur again, their trust in their leaders shaken. The air was thick with doubt, fear, and confusion.
Tel-Nu's voice filled the silence once more.
"I will give you one last chance," he said, his tone low and dangerous. "Tell the people the truth. Tell them what really happened. Tell them why this world is in ruins, why the core of the Earth was shattered, why the apocalypse came. Tell them, or I will."
The Core Seven exchanged looks, their faces pale. They had no idea what Tel-Nu was talking about—or did they?
"Tell them!" Tel-Nu's voice boomed, causing the ground beneath their feet to tremble. "Or I will reveal it myself."
For a long moment, no one spoke. The crowd looked to their leaders, waiting, hoping for an explanation that made sense of it all. But the Core Seven remained silent, their minds racing, their hearts heavy with the weight of the accusations.
"Very well," Tel-Nu said finally, his voice soft but filled with menace. "If you won't tell them, then I will."
With that, the presence of Tel-Nu seemed to recede, leaving the crowd in stunned silence once again. The Core Seven exchanged uneasy glances, knowing that whatever Tel-Nu was about to reveal, it would change everything.
And there was nothing they could do to stop it.
