Chapter 47 - Chapter 46: The Warrior’s Army

The harsh clang of steel against steel echoed through the War Hall of the fifth ring, where the elite warriors of Corintopia's Inner Rings Gauntlet trained relentlessly. Dmitri stood at the head of the chamber, arms crossed, his piercing gaze fixed on the squad leaders, captains, and aides gathered around the massive stone table. The air in the room was charged with tension, the smell of sweat and determination thick as the warriors prepared for the fight of their lives.

The fifth ring was the second major line of defense for Corintopia, housing the most elite soldiers in the city. These were warriors who had trained for years, their bodies augmented with bio-mech suits that allowed them to surpass the limits of human strength and endurance. But as formidable as they were, Dmitri knew that their greatest challenge lay ahead—Tel-Nu.

Dmitri's gaze swept over the group as the final few squad leaders entered the hall, taking their places around the table. He had called this meeting because, like the rest of the Core Seven, he couldn't ignore the looming threat of Tel-Nu's silence. They had prepared for everything, but they were facing an enemy unlike any they had ever encountered.

When the room finally fell into silence, Dmitri began speaking, his voice a low rumble filled with authority. "You all know why I've called this meeting. The Core Seven are concerned, and I share their concerns. Tel-Nu has been silent, and that silence is more dangerous than any attack he could launch. We don't know where he is or what he's planning, but we can't afford to wait for him to make the first move."

The captains and squad leaders nodded in agreement, their expressions grim. The warriors of the fifth ring were the best of the best, but they knew that even they might not be enough against the overwhelming power of Tel-Nu.

Vaska, Dmitri's second-in-command and one of the most experienced captains in the Inner Rings Gauntlet, was the first to speak. "We've been running drills every day, preparing for every possible scenario. The soldiers are at peak performance, and we've tested the limits of the bio-mech suits. But if Tel-Nu's power is what we've been told, we might need to rethink some of our strategies."

Dmitri nodded, his face hard and unreadable. "You're right, Vaska. We've trained for conventional warfare, but Tel-Nu doesn't fight like a normal enemy. His power is… something else entirely. We need to be prepared for more than just physical combat. We're facing a being who can manipulate shadows, distort reality, and kill with a word."

The room was silent for a moment as Dmitri's words sank in. They had all heard the stories of Tel-Nu's power, but now, faced with the reality of what was coming, the weight of the situation felt heavier than ever.

Jorin, the squad leader of one of Dmitri's elite strike teams, spoke up next. "We've been pushing the soldiers hard, but we can't keep this pace forever. If we're going to face Tel-Nu, we'll need to keep our forces fresh. We can't afford exhaustion to take out our warriors before the battle even begins."

Dmitri's expression softened slightly. "You're right, Jorin. I want the soldiers to keep training, but we need to rotate them more often. We'll run shorter, more intense drills and make sure everyone gets adequate rest. Tel-Nu won't give us a second chance if we're not at our best."

Vaska crossed his arms, his brow furrowed in thought. "What about the defensive positions? The fifth ring is well-fortified, but if Tel-Nu gets through the outer defenses, we need to be ready to defend the inner rings. I'm worried about our current deployment—we might need to adjust where our forces are stationed."

Dmitri nodded in agreement, his gaze shifting to the large map of Corintopia that hung on the far wall. The fifth ring was critical to the city's defense, housing not only the elite warriors but also the vital supply lines that fed into the other rings. If Tel-Nu managed to breach the outer rings, the fifth ring would be the last major barrier between him and the heart of the city.

"We'll adjust the deployment," Dmitri said, his voice firm. "I want more soldiers stationed at the key points around the ring—especially near the gates and supply depots. Tel-Nu isn't going to strike where we expect him to. He'll go for the weak points, the places where we're vulnerable. We need to be one step ahead of him."

The squad leaders exchanged glances, nodding in agreement. They knew the importance of being proactive in their defense—Tel-Nu was a being of unimaginable power, and they couldn't afford to react to his attacks after the fact. They needed to anticipate his moves, to be ready before he struck.

Kara, one of the captains responsible for overseeing the bio-mech suit maintenance, spoke up next. "The suits are in good condition, but I've noticed some strain on the energy cores during the last few drills. If we're going to be fighting at full capacity for extended periods, we'll need to make sure the suits are fully optimized."

Dmitri nodded. "We'll run diagnostics on every suit. Make sure the energy cores are at full strength, and if there's any issue, fix it immediately. I don't want anyone going into battle with faulty equipment."

He turned to address the entire room, his gaze sweeping over the captains and squad leaders. "We're preparing for the fight of our lives. Tel-Nu is out there, waiting, and when he comes, we'll be the ones standing between him and the heart of Corintopia. I know you're all tired. I know we've been training hard, but we have to push through. We have to be stronger, faster, and smarter than we've ever been."

Vaska stepped forward, his voice calm but commanding. "We'll be ready, Dmitri. The soldiers have been pushing themselves to the limit, and they're ready to go even further. Tel-Nu won't catch us off guard."

Dmitri gave a curt nod. "Good. I trust you all to make the necessary adjustments. We'll continue the drills, but I want to make sure that every soldier is prepared for the unexpected. We're not just defending the fifth ring—we're defending Corintopia itself. We can't afford to fail."

As the meeting began to wind down, Dmitri felt a weight settle on his shoulders. The fifth ring was the backbone of Corintopia's defense, and the warriors under his command were the best in the city. But even with all their training, all their preparations, he couldn't shake the feeling that Tel-Nu was one step ahead of them.

After the captains and squad leaders left the room, Dmitri remained behind for a moment, his gaze fixed on the map of Corintopia. He could feel the tension building in the air, the weight of the impending battle pressing down on him. The Core Seven had evolved, become stronger than ever, but Tel-Nu's power was something none of them fully understood.

As he stood there, lost in thought, Vaska approached him. "You're worried," Vaska said, his voice quiet but steady.

Dmitri didn't deny it. "I am. Tel-Nu is… beyond anything we've ever faced. And this silence—it feels like a trap. I can't shake the feeling that he's waiting for the perfect moment to strike."

Vaska placed a hand on Dmitri's shoulder. "We'll be ready. The soldiers are strong, and they trust you. We've prepared for this. Whatever comes, we'll face it together."

Dmitri gave a small nod, though the unease in his chest remained. "I hope you're right, Vaska. Because when Tel-Nu strikes, it's going to be a battle like none we've ever seen."
