As soon as she spoke, Olivia felt a knot in her heart instantly unravel. The terror she felt shrank considerably; at least she no longer had to fear her mind being crushed. The girl suddenly realized Anna had a point. If the Tree was so powerful, why should she oppose It?
A faint smile touched Anna's lips as she watched Olivia, who was drenched in cold sweat and panting heavily. Another expendable pawn had joined her side.
She reached over, pulled the tablet closer, and started checking flights to their destination.
"You should call your school and explain the situation. For the foreseeable future, you probably won't have time to attend classes."
Olivia, still shaken, nodded and took out her phone to do as she was told.
Tapping on the keyboard, Anna asked, "By the way, I haven't asked yet, what did the IMF use to modify your memory? Was it a living creature or an inanimate object?"
