From Jimmy's account, Charles learned that a group of Exploration Ships had already departed ahead of them. They weren't just motivated by the prospect of reaching the Abyss-Sea; they also wanted to claim the reward Charles had mentioned.
The other Exploration Ships that had taken the correct route found nothing. Instead, it was Jimmy, who had veered slightly off course, who stumbled upon their target by a stroke of luck.

The ground gradually turned into brown, earthy-smelling soil, devoid of any vegetation. Boulders the size of the Narwhal left deep trails behind them, as if they could move on their own. After careful inspection, Charles discovered they were just large, round rocks that posed no threat.
