Donna didn't dare to be careless. She meticulously reviewed the contract, and only after confirming it was just a regular house transfer agreement did she take the pen with a trembling hand and write her name.
Looking at her crooked signature, Donna flushed with embarrassment. "Sorry, I… it's been a long time since I've held a pen."
"No, no, no, you wrote very well. Much better than most people," Leonardo reassured her.
He pulled back the carbon copy underneath and placed several copper keys in her palm. "Very good, Ms. Donna. This house is now yours. I will arrange for someone to take you to the factory for work tomorrow."
"Also, regarding your child, by order of the Governor of Hope Island, all children on the island must attend school for compulsory education. Rest assured, all of this is free."
After Leonardo drove away, Donna stood in front of her new home, momentarily feeling as if she were still in a dream.
