For the following two days, Elizabeth openly expressed her longing for Charles.
She was so happy she could barely contain herself, especially after learning that Charles had decided not to go to Earth's surface ever again and was truly settling down in the Abyss-Sea. It meant her lover would no longer have to risk his life. He could stay on the island and serve as the Governor in peace, and she would never again have to worry about him dying suddenly.
On the morning of the third day, the first thing Charles saw when he opened his eyes was Elizabeth lying beside him, her hair a wild mess. Asleep, she looked gentle and vulnerable with her fists tucked up to her chest, not a trace of the Governor's commanding air about her.
Her eyes fluttered and then slowly opened. When she saw Charles staring at her, she gave him a sweet smile. "Good morning, darling."
She reached out with her long arms, pulled Charles close, and kissed him softly.
