What could exist beneath this abyss that could drive a person mad? The question flashed through Charles's mind. His interest piqued, and he continued reading. This guy had apparently reached the very bottom; perhaps his logbook contained more useful information.

We continued to descend. The water is still so cold. Everyone is hiding in the boiler room and won't come out. The sailor chief couldn't stand the cold and eventually even hid inside the boiler. He looks very happy in there.
