Chapter 64 - Chapter Fifty eight: The drive back

The kiss had started soft. Gentle. Reassuring. Her lips trembled against his, tasting of rain and something sweeter—possibility, maybe.

 Now?

It was all fire.

Kyle kissed her like she was the last damn thing holding him together. Like he'd been waiting, simmering—for this. For her. His lips crushed hers, his hands finding her waist and flipping her onto the bed like it was second nature. The scent of his cologne mixed with the storm outside, making her head spin.

She gasped against his mouth as her back hit the mattress, but he didn't stop. He hovered over her bracing himself on his elbows, eyes dark and unreadable as they stared down into hers. Raindrops from his hair fell onto her cheeks, each one electric against her flushed skin.

"Say something," he muttered against her lips.

"I—I don't want to think," she whispered back.

"Good."

And just like that, he kissed her again—deeper. Slower. Her hands tangled in his hair, tugging as his body pressed into hers. She could feel his heart pounding, or maybe it was hers, or maybe the universe had decided to implode right there in Kyle's guest room.

One ring.

Two.

Three.

"Don't," he said, hands holding her waist steady .

Her phone blared to life again snapping Raye out of her thoughts .

Kyle pulled back, his breath ragged, eyes still dark with wanting. He ran a hand through his messy wet hair frustratedly.

Raye rolled to the side and answered without looking. "Hello?"

"RAYE! I'm back! Where are you ?? " Jane's worried voice rang through, cheerful and completely unaware.

Reality slammed into her like a truck.

"I—I'm coming," Raye managed, her voice cracking.

Raye swallowed, glancing toward the window. Drops still slid lazily down the glass, glowing faintly under the porch light.

"You should get out of those wet clothes," he said quietly, reaching over to the oversized black long - sleeved shirt which he had brought and had tossed on the floor when she started crying .

Without a word , he tossed it to her direction still not facing her .

"Wear that," he said, his tone even, but distant. "You'll catch a cold in that one."

Kyle stood by the door, his back turned to her. The low light threw his frame in sharp relief — shoulders tense, jaw tight, eyes somewhere far from the room.

He didn't look at her.

She didn't look at him.

 "Thanks."

Silence filled the room again, heavy and uncomfortable. The only sound was the faint tap of rain against the windows.

He gave a curt nod before walking out of the room and shutting the door slowly and quietly.

Raye sighed tiredly growling loudly with heated cheeks she slumped back on the soft comfortable bed .

"Ugh what have I done ,I kissed him ...like literally kissed him , fuck how am I suppose to even look at him now " .

Sighing again , she stood up from the bed , looking at the long black think shirt he had handed to her , picking it up she took a waft of it ...and gosh it's smelt so much like him .

This was definitely his and he gave her Raye thought a grin spreading across her face .

Patting her cheeks lightly to flush away the thoughts , Raye stood up form the bed before she quickly removed her wet clothes and slipped into the shirt — big enough to hang loosely over her frame — then turned toward the door.

She hesitated whether she should go out or not, because she wasn't wearing any trouser or skirt ...her skirt was wet .

The shirt did a good thing by stopping below her knees , but she wasn't still comfortable .

Raye covered her face with her hand stomping her feet like a child on the floor

It would have been a lot easier if she hadn't kissed the guy and is now wearing one of his shirt ....geez she wished she could keep it .

Raye eyes went wide open at her thought , quickly shaking her head , she decided to go meet him downstairs before Jane gets extremely worried than she already is .

She picked up her wet clothes , before leaving the room, walking slowly down the stairs ,which she guessed was the right part to the sitting room . She stared intently at the walls and how big and quiet the house is .

She had alot of questions to ask , about him .

Did he live here all by himself ...alone ...why

They were so much but she couldn't , cause she already made matters worst by kissing the boy .

Raye walked to the sitting room to see Kyle standing close to the door , already changed into a new set of clothe ,she cleared her throat to bring his attention towards her .

"Um ...I am done " Raye managed to say trying to avoid Kyle gaze which was intently directed towards her at this moment .

Kyle dragged his eyes begrudgingly from her , before clearing his throat .

"I didn't um ...have skirt or anything you could wear down ...." He trailed off while Raye blushed red still staring at the tiles like it was something special .

"I can manage , thank you for this one "

"Let's go. I'll drive you."

"Hmm " Raye managed to hum , desperately looking for an exist from the whole staring and awkward situation .

The ride home was quiet. Too quiet.

The car's engine purred softly, headlights stretching over the wet asphalt as the city rolled past in blurred lights.

Raye sat rigidly in the passenger seat, hands folded tightly in her lap. She could still feel the weight of everything that hadn't been said pressing between them — the look in his eyes earlier, the heat of his hand on her arm, the confusion swirling somewhere deep in her chest.

Kyle's grip on the steering wheel was tight. His profile was calm, but his mind wasn't.

He wondered if she was upset ...she wasn't even saying anything .

Not like she said anything before , but the silence it was killing him , but at the same time he didn't want to pry too much .

Ten minutes later, he drove her back.

The car ride was silent. Thick with everything they didn't say.

She kept staring out the window like if she looked at him, she'd shatter.

He parked in front of her building. Turned to her , with a growl he said

"Say something."

She still couldn't.

His gaze darkened. "You're gonna pretend it didn't happen?"

Her throat tightened.

Kyle gave a short, humorless laugh. "Classic."

And yet... when she opened the door, he still got out.

Still gave her that look—that unreadable, intense look—and pulled her into one last hug.

It was hard. Strong. One hand gripping her waist, the other buried in her hair.

Raye went totally rigged , and was happy when he pulled her .

She rubbed her chest lightly still staring at something else rather his face .

"For goodness sake , rae ,look at me " Kyle growled using his index finger to push her face so she could meet his gaze.

"Good night and sleep well ok " Kyle muttered softly to which Raye gave a stiff nod .

Like her neck forgot how to move .

Blame the boy here still hugging her even at this situation Raye thought huffing quietly as she watched him take a step backward before he turned to enter into his car .

And then he drove away .
