(Almera POV)
The doors closed behind us with a final, heavy sound.
It was different this time.
Not rushed.
Not tense.
Almost… inevitable.
The world outside—the harem, the whispers, the rules, the factions—fell away the moment the bolt slid into place.
Romulus did not speak immediately.
He removed his outer robe slowly, deliberately, as though daring me to look. I did not avert my eyes. Not anymore. I had learned that much about him already—he noticed everything.
"You are thinking too loudly," he said at last.
I swallowed. "Am I?"
"Yes." He replied with a grin.
He approached, stopping only a breath away. His presence alone was overwhelming—heat, authority, something dangerously intimate. He lifted my chin with two fingers, forcing me to meet his gaze.
"You wonder why I came again?" He asked me.
I nodded.
"In this palace," he said quietly, "nothing is accidental."
My pulse quickened.
