Eventually, Lira's group made it into another hall that was illuminated by flickering torches, and in this room, two monsters awaited.
The hall was wide and circular, with high stone walls carved roughly from the earth. The ceiling arched overhead, supported by thick pillars stained dark by moisture and age. Torches burned steadily along the walls, casting long shadows that twisted and crawled across the floor like living things.
At the center stood two figures.
One was a massive undead Orc.
Its body was bulky and reinforced with metal plates bolted directly into decaying flesh. Steam hissed from vents embedded in its shoulders, and its red eyes glowed faintly beneath a heavy brow. It stood perfectly still, arms crossed, like a guardian waiting patiently for intruders.
Beside it stood a much smaller figure.
A boy.
At least, that was what he seemed to be.
