There were plenty of bedrooms on the mansion's top floor, stretching along long corridors lined with dark carpets and flickering wall lamps. Most of the doors were shut, silent and untouched.
But only one room was truly occupied.
The Master's Bedroom.
The servants' rooms were located on the same floor, though they were nothing like the luxurious spaces reserved for guests and masters. Each servant's room was small and cramped, furnished with narrow beds, plain wooden chairs, and thin blankets that barely looked warm enough for a cold night. Everything about those rooms reflected their low standing in the mansion—functional, joyless, and temporary.
Aside from those, there were several private guest rooms scattered across the floor.
These rooms were far more welcoming.
