Evie pressed her lips together and hesitated before asking the question.
She had already thought about it more than once. It lingered at the back of her mind, tugging at her thoughts whenever things grew quiet. If she didn't ask now, she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep later.
More than that, she needed closure.
What happened between them—between all three of them—had left too many loose ends. Ideally, they should talk it out someday. Face-to-face. Calmly.
Taking a slow breath, Evie finally spoke.
"What happened to Saya? Is she going to come?"
She tried to keep her tone neutral, her face composed. But her voice betrayed her. It trembled ever so slightly, revealing the tension she was trying so hard to suppress.
Ren's expression darkened instantly.
The warmth that had lingered around him moments ago vanished, replaced by something heavy and cold. A tense silence spread through the room, thick enough to make Evie's chest tighten.
