Chapter 2 - Home is where the Undead are

When Thomas stepped off the bus, he saw a moving object flashing red and blue lights stop nearby. This object had several Flesh bags step out with black objects in their hands.

"Car"

"Rifle"

He didn't know why but he started to instinctively move towards the dark alley near him. He wasn't too sure if he wanted to trust that urge to move, the Flesh bags were right in front of him after all. All he had to do was to go up to one and bite them!

*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*

"Raauugghh!!!" Several of his kin suddenly dropped to the floor as the Blue Flesh bags pointed their black objects. More kin started to growl in response and pretty soon, the Flesh bags near the car were the center of all the kin in the surrounding area's attention.

The "rifles" made sharp piercing sounds that drove Thomas to follow his instinct and move towards the alley. As he slipped into the shadows, Thomas could hear more and more sounds just like that of the first "car".

He found an old rusted container and jumped inside of it. There was still too much light in the sky, perhaps a night hunt would draw less attention. Closing the plastic lid, Thomas began to patiently wait for nightfall.

It was strange, despite being in total darkness and in nasty smelling garbage, Thomas was not bothered at all. He didn't even have the feeling of "boredom" that he once knew before he was turned. Although, scattered instincts and random memories were all he had of his previous existence.

After an uncertain amount of time in the darkness, the lid to the container was suddenly thrown open!

"Hey! What the hell!?" An extremely disheveled and smelly man exclaimed as he saw Thomas in the dumpster.

"This is my territory! Get the hell out!"

"…"

"Silent treatment eh? I guess we can settle this the old fashioned way. I'll have you know old Oscar is the three time fighting ring champion of

S Street!" The vagrant man called Oscar said as he started to roll up his sleeves.

"Gruagghh!"

"Aaaahhhh!"

Oscar started flailing as Thomas suddenly bit a chunk out of Oscar's neck. It appeared to finally be nightfall, so Thomas decided to leave.

As Oscar fell to the ground, a sack he was holding had its contents spill out. Thomas could see that what Oscar dropped could be considered as "valuables". But they didn't matter to Thomas anymore, so he started walking past the red pool of Oscar's blood.

"…Kuuhhh." Oscar had one hand on his neck and shot his other out to grab Thomas' foot.

Oscar turned out to be more tenacious than Thomas expected, even as he was dying he held on to Thomas with a death grip!

Thomas blinked at Oscar, using what little brain power he had now to decide what to do next. He didn't hear the sounds of the Blue Flesh bags' "cars" anymore.

Stumbling due to his now poor motor control of his limbs and due to the unflinching Oscar, Thomas hobbled over to pick up a large metal cover from a can.

"Uaaghh!"

Thomas growled at Oscar but still he held on. Left with no choice, Thomas raised the metal lid and slammed it on Oscar's head multiple times.

Oscar stopped moving and released Thomas' foot. Thomas squatted down and looked hungrily at Oscar's head.

"Uaagh!?" Thomas was puzzled as he tried repeatedly to bite Oscar's head. It seemed like his teeth were not strong enough to break through the hard part of his head to get to the delicious brains!

A lingering feeling also told him that if he tried any harder, he might lose his teeth and any further ability to bite other Flesh bags.

"Rauugh!" Thomas stumbled away to look for something to open Oscar's head with. His limbs were hard to control which meant he needed a big object that was also durable that he could use. The metal can he used before was too crumpled now to be used any further.

After a while, Thomas found a circular piece of concrete debris. It was heavy, but Thomas was able to slowly drag it back towards Oscar.

Clack Clack Clack

"Raugh!?"

Letting go of the small boulder, Thomas shuffled back to Oscar as fast as he could.

Unfortunately, Oscar was already gone. The vagrant was unusually tough for a Flesh bag.

"Gaooruaghh!!" Thomas roared in anger in to the night.

"Rauooo!"

"Arooaughh!"

"Kuuaogghbnm!"

Thomas was answered in tandem by many other howls in the night. It seemed like the Blue Flesh bags were not able to finish off his kin so easily.

Angry about his escaped prey, Thomas finally left the alley and was welcomed by the sight of many other kin walking around.

Young, old, weak, strong, men and women, there were kin of all sorts of shapes and sizes. They spared Thomas a glance as he left the dark alley but then went about their business once more. Their goal of course was to eat the Flesh bags in order to fill their hunger.

Thomas found a group of kin standing and staring at a wall with small boxes containing moving colors and pictures.

"Store"

"TV"

He couldn't but also be mesmerized by the "TV"as well. There was a metal grate preventing them from moving forwards, nonetheless any time a Flesh bag appeared on the "TV" they all stumbled forward hungrily.

"This is Empire City News reporting that a mysterious viral outbreak near downtown has forced the police to lock down multiple blocks in efforts to curb its spread. Residents are up in arms when told they could not leave the quarantine zone."

"In other news, the mayor has still not commented on the mysterious cellular black out in the quarantine zone hours after the zone was hastily established. Before service was fully lost, pictures and videos from those inside have started calling this a "Zombie Outbreak". Only time will tell if the mayor has bitten off more than they can chew."
