Things happened so fast afterwards. The world ceased to be a place of quiet panic and transformed into a theatre of primal destruction.
Roaring sounds echoed from the horizon, a deep, guttural thrumming that seemed to vibrate within my very bones, while even the earth itself kept trembling as if it were trying to shake us off its surface.
The horizon towards that big, shining red ball of fire looked awful—a bruised, bleeding sky where the fire kept burning without an end. I stared at the atmospheric ignition, the heat even from this distance prickling against my skin.
I knew it would take a full day at least for that fire to die down. For now, it threw a sick, dark red light over the surroundings, illuminating the landscape in shades of dried blood and making anyone from far away see the brutal wave coming fast towards the ground.
It's not that big, I thought to myself, a small mercy in a world of cruelty. Luckily, they didn't change their plans for me.
