"Your mother misses you, too, son," the king had said months ago, when Nour had come back to the palace after healing. It was a time that had been so hard for the prince, and in his pain, he had made a promise.
One that he hadn't kept… until today.
It had been a year.
A year since Nour had last come to see the queen.
A year since he had talked to his mother.
A year since his world had started getting a bit crazier than he had imagined.
On most days, he had wanted to come, but then time and the issues that he had to deal with along the way had proven to be overwhelming for him. It was like the entire universe had ganged up on him to remind him of what the stakes would always be.
Today, as he stood here, next to the queen's grave, Nour couldn't help but wonder if his mother would have approved some of the decisions he had made.
For years, he had tried to be a good person.
