Chapter 29 - Upgrade

Ethan calmed himself down. Now he was officially on the path of cultivation. He shouldn't get overly excited over such minor achievements. His goal was to reach the peak of the cultivation world. If he could do that quickly enough, then—according to the novels he had read back on Earth—he might even be able to travel through space and find a way back.

He wanted to meet Shirley and tell her the truth. He had to face her, regardless of her reaction. To do that, he needed to become much stronger—and fast. With that thought in mind, he ordered the system to display his current statistics.

Ethan could tell that the main reason he was able to break through so smoothly was because the system had granted him +100 points to all attributes. And the reason he had received such an overwhelming bonus was because he had unknowingly become a teacher—without relying on the system.

That was why the system had rewarded him so generously. He had even received two special rewards, one of which upgraded his talent pool from Mortal Grade to Warrior Grade.

With this, he was no longer at the absolute bottom of the cultivation world.

He felt genuinely happy. More importantly, he now understood that talent could be improved. Even if it wasn't easy, it was at least possible.

"System, what is the use of Golden Points?" Ethan asked. This question had been troubling him for a while. He hadn't seen this option while playing Ascension back on Earth.

[Golden Points are fate-altering points.]

[They can be used to gain major advantages.]

[Users can enhance their talent pool, Spirit attribute, and Luck attribute using Golden Points.]

Ethan was stunned at first—then excited. If that was the case, he had to think carefully before spending them. Golden Points clearly weren't easy to obtain, so he needed to use them in a way he wouldn't regret later.

At present, Golden Points could only be used on the Talent Pool, Spirit, and Luck. All three were crucial. Naturally, he hesitated.

"System, how many Golden Points are required to upgrade my talent pool?" he asked.

[Spiritual Roots: 40 Golden Points]

[Physique: 40 Golden Points]

[Spirit: 40 Golden Points]

[All talent pool upgrades require Golden Points only.]

"How many Golden Points are needed to increase Spirit and Luck?" he asked next.

[Spirit: 10 Golden Points → 0.9]

[Luck: 10 Golden Points → 7]

Ethan pondered carefully.

Better Spiritual Roots meant faster cultivation. Better Physique increased survivability and combat strength. Higher Spirit improved comprehension. Luck influenced fate and survival.

All were important.

Luck, especially, could save his life. If he were ever chased by someone far stronger, higher Luck could mean a chance to escape.

As for Spirit, he knew it had to be vital—otherwise, the system wouldn't restrict it behind Golden Points.

"System, what exactly does Spirit do?" he asked.

[Spirit affects cultivation foundation.]

[Higher Spirit improves resistance to soul attacks, soul curses, and mental interference.]

[It also drastically improves comprehension of complex theories.]

That alone convinced him.

Ethan didn't rush. He waited, thought, and calculated carefully before making his choice.

Finally, he spoke.

"System, upgrade Physique in my talent pool."

[Command accepted]

[Upgrading Physique…]

[Upgrade successful]

[Physique has advanced to Major Grade]

"System, upgrade Spirit in my talent pool."

[Command accepted]

[Upgrading Spirit…]

[Upgrade successful]

[Spirit has advanced to Major Grade]

"Good." Ethan was satisfied.

There was a reason he hadn't upgraded his Spiritual Roots. If he had more Golden Points, he would have done so without hesitation—but resources were limited.

He needed a strong Physique for defense. According to the books he had read in the library, some combat techniques relied entirely on physical strength rather than spiritual energy. That alone justified his choice.

As for Spirit, its importance was unquestionable. Strong Spirit meant better comprehension. Complex theories would become simple.

Back on Earth, he had struggled with even basic logic. That was why people had always called him a fool. In the cultivation world, comprehension determined everything.

As for Spiritual Roots—yes, they affected cultivation speed and bottlenecks.

But Ethan had the system.

He was confident that, for now, he could afford to postpone upgrading them.

That was why he made his choice.
