It was still dawn when Anna slowly opened her eyes.
She sat up and looked around the room.
Empty.
Tom wasn't there.
A small frown formed on her face as she got out of bed.
After freshening up, she walked toward the kitchen, following the smell of breakfast.
There, she found Mrs. Horii already busy preparing food. Anna was surprised to see her awake so early in the morning.
"Good morning!" Anna greeted cheerfully.
"Ohayō, Ms. Anna," Mrs. Horii replied with a warm smile.
Anna smiled back and quietly put on an apron, deciding to help.
She wanted to ask about Tom… but for some reason, the words didn't come out. Instead, she stayed silent and focused on preparing breakfast.
"You're very early today, Mrs. Horii," Anna said softly.
"I came here last night to keep you company," she replied while chopping spring onions.
Anna paused.
"To… accompany me?"
Before she could say more, Mrs. Horii continued,
"There was an urgent matter. Tom had to leave for Tokyo last night."
