Winter roamed the library for moments more before remembering that she had told her friends she went to the bathroom. She slinked to her seat and noticed it was the final minutes of the movie. When she sat back down, her friends were so enraptured in the film that they barely noticed her. Winter smiled, relieved that the interrogation concerning her whereabouts would not come. When the credits started rolling and the lights went back on, Jax's head spun and his eyes locked on hers, "How did you know how the movie was gonna end before it even started?" She fiddled her thumbs absently and Mandy perked up to answer for her, "Winter solves mysteries for fun so a movie plot is nothing to her." Jax laughed delightedly, "You like those mystery games too?" Winter rolled her eyes and Layla shook her head, "Not games." Winter sighed as Jax watched her carefully, "Then you realized the ending that fast?" Winter rubbed her eyes thinking, "And the interrogation begins." "It was just a lucky guess." Jax huffed in his surprise, "A lucky guess my foot. All I see is a pretty girl and a shiny car." He thought for a moment, "Wait you never just watch a movie to be entertained?" Winter shook her head, "Movies don't interest me." Mandy and Layla shared a bemused laugh. "So what does the great Winter Knight deem fun?" In spite of his sarcasm, Jax looked genuinely curious. Winter pretended to give it some thought, "Uncovering truth." Jax raised his eyebrows, "Well aren't you just a modern day Nancy Drew." Layla's eyes roamed from Jax to Winter, taking in the interaction, "We're relying on Winter to solve the ultimate mystery." Mandy grinned fiendishly, "We're trying to get her to unveil the headmaster's identity." Absorbed in their conversation, they didn't realize the rest of the class had already left until Cornell stormed back in the room, "Excuse me for interrupting your little therapy session. Just let me know when you're ready to join the rest of us back on earth." He stomped his foot aggressively impatient. At the sound of Jax's exuberant, boyish laughter Cornell bellowed, "Ryan! You seem to be quite the lady's man. Why don't you meet me in the teacher's office later so you can lift heavy things and impress them with those muscles of yours." Winter laughed and Jax glared at her.
Mandy, Layla, and Jax were rambling on about their thoughts of the movie when Winter noticed hazel eyes again. Winter squinted in the girl's direction just as she was moving to turn away. Winter called out for her to wait and her friends turned to her in confusion, but Winter had already started after the owner of the hazel eyes, "I'll catch up with you guys in a second." Winter followed the girl to the roof and it struck Winter that the girl's hair was now a chilled blue color. Winter crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for the girl to turn around, "What's your deal? Who are you?" The girl glowered at Winter, "Brenna Abbott, second year." Winter studied her, "And why do you keep staring at me? Want beauty tips?" Brenna tucked her short, bluish-white hair behind her ear, "I happened to hear whispers about a new student so I'm trying to figure out what all the hype's about. You're not even that pretty." The corner of Winter's mouth tugged up, "Your boyfriend have a crush on me or something?" Brenna scoffed, "The only one for me is Sam Tudor and he wouldn't give someone like you the time of day." Winter uninterestedly glanced at her nails as Brenna continued, "The only reason you're getting any attention is because you're fresh blood." Winter simply laughed which only irked Brenna further, "You won't be laughing when I make your life a living hell."
