"Everyone is misunderstanding all of this." Alana stepped forward before anyone could say another word.
Her soft voice drew every eye toward her. She looked unsettled by the growing confrontation, but there was also something almost intimate in the way she moved closer to Primo, as though she believed her presence could calm him.
"Please," she said, touching his arm. "You don't have to fight with anyone because of me."
Gabriella's gaze fell to Alana's hand.
So did Felip's.
Primo immediately pulled his arm away, but the movement came too late.
The room had seen it.
More importantly, Gabriella had seen it.
Alana appeared startled by the rejection. "I'm sorry. I only wanted to —"
"Don't," Primo told her. His tone was sharper than before.
Alana lowered her hand to her belly ashamed as Felip let out a slow breath through his nose before he spoke "You are remarkably talented at making things worse."
