Although it was Ivy and the others that brought me here, as I was being hugged by Adam for several minutes too long, they all took the opportunity to run away and abandon me.
"…." I was speechless, but also because, my mind was racing! Adam was warm and had a relaxing scent all over. Not to mention the hug which I was so certain I would hate, given the way Garret had always made me feel.
But right now, I felt calmer, relaxed. Aside from the furious blush that was on my face.
"I'm sorry. I just- I can't stand you running away from me." Adam suddenly spoke up, his voice deep and moving. "It hurts more than anything else I've ever dealt with."
"!!" My heart skipped a beat. Several. "I-I'm sorry. It never…it never occurred to me that I was making you feel this way…I'm really sorry."
"Don't be," he squeezed me tighter. It was suffocating. I was starting to feel dizzy. "Please know that I, I wanted to give you space and I wanted to let you come to me on your own terms I just…it's because of this…since you're, my mate. It's difficult."
"!" I pushed him back weakly, but he quickly let go of me, perhaps worried that I took his words wrong? In reality…my head was starting to spin, and all over, I felt really sensitive. "I…I'm not mad at you. Okay? I just need a second to—"
"And you smell amazing," his eyes glowed yellow, but he quickly covered his flushed face. "I-I'm sorry, I…I need to calm down, first."
I stood still for many seconds, thinking.when I told Sara and the other girls about my past, they actually seemed to be a little understanding. I wasn't met with the disgust that I expected. The disgust I had always recieved, even by my age mates.
"Can we…sit and talk?"
"!!" Adam quickly unhid his face. His eyes were staring directly against mine. "Yes. I-I'm okay with that."
"…" I pursed my lips as we entered the infirmary, still holding hands. It was the first time I'd ever skipped class. And doing so to talk to a boy? What was coming over me? But I saw the red which dusted over his complexion and couldn't help but feel sorry for him. I'm simply fixing my wrongs, a-aren't I?

Adam listened to the entirety of my story without interrupting. How my mom died, my powers manifesting, and even how my father kicked us out. It was a bit awkward because somehow, he was sitting on the infirmary bed with me in his arms! He just rested his head on my shoulder, b-but even then, weren't we a little too close for comfort?
When Garret held me, as much as I wanted to feel good from it, in the back of my mind I was always nervous he might get angry again and hit me. But now, as I was sitting here with Adam, I was only nervous that something more would happen. Would he…try and kiss me?
"Vikky, it really wasn't your fault." He suddenly spoke up from my shoulder and I jumped a little. "Sorry. Did I startle you?"
My face was incredibly hot. "N-No. It's okay but…Adam. It really is my fault, you know."
"How?" He hugged my waist tighter and I stopped talking. "Your mom was dying. You tried to save her and unfortunately, you couldn't. That doesn't make you evil, Vikky. That makes you a good person."
My nerves started to fall away. The whole room got a little blurry. "But, it costed my siblings everything, Adam. T-Their home, their parents."
"You are doing your best." His response was effortless. "You are their family too, aren't you?"
"I…I am, but…." I started to say. This hug was starting to scare me. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to get a hold of myself, but my hands started to tremble. "Adam, you can't, I can't ask you to understand everything that I'm-no. I can't ask you to save me. I just can't!"
I was finally let go after hugging for so long. I felt a little dizzy, cold, but also comfortable. This, this was what things were supposed to feel like—
A warm hand rested on the side of my face. I was turned to face Adam, stunned, my body froze. Up close, he was pretty good looking but…w-wait a moment, why were we so close?
"Then don't ask. Don't ask my to understand you or to be saved." His eyes were flickering with their golden sparkle. "Don't ask for anything and I, I don't make you."
"Y-You mean that?"
"But I'll give you everything I can, Vikky." Adam suddenly breathed. His face dusted over with pink, but he only doubled down his toughness. "I promise I'll be understanding, i promise I'll give you time. I promise that what ever you don't ask of me, I'll give you. And whatever you ask, too."
I felt a tear roll down my face. As soon as it did, Adam wiped it away. "Because I'm your mate?"
He smiled, nodding a little. "And the girl I like. And a good person. And a good sister to her siblings, and someone who deserves it."
Although terrified, although my body constantly felt as though it would be thrown back into a pit of trauma and abuse after feeling something this good… was it smart for me to reach out and latch onto him?
"A-Adam…" I started crying a little harder, overwhelmed. "I-I'm sorry I keep pushing you away….I'm sorry that I'm so horrible to you and I-I never meant to make you feel so bad I just-"
I was pulled into another hug, this time, falling face first into his arms. "It's okay. I forgive you. Please, just stay with me. For a little longer, if that's okay."
"Y-Yeah." I accepted and even wrapped my arms around his neck, nervously so. "That's okay with me…Adam."
"Good." I was squeezed. The warmth was unbearable. It would surely scorch my skin, but…maybe I should let it. "You know…Since that night I met you I knew how special you were."
My heart skipped a beat. "Y-You don't mean that."
"I do." He was so straight to the point, it was dizzying. "It was like my heart only started when we met. Isn't that crazy?"
"!" I went silent. Mainly because at his description, I was reminded of the day I went to school and bumbed into him, dropping my red hair clip and worried that I'd be yelled at or scolded for doing so. Instead, I saw him.
"Is, everything okay?" Adam spoke gently as I rose up and away from the hug, staring at me. I could only imagine how I looked. Puffy eyes from crying and a red nose from how much I sniffled, trying not to get snot on his shirt.
My hair was probably a mess, too. But the messiest part at me would have to be my eyes. Messy and conflicted.
"I…I can't ask you to save me, Adam." I spoke up, my voice trembling a little. Was I scared? Why was my heart raging like this, as my hand trembled and rested against his lips. "I can't, ask for….a kiss either?" My voice got really quiet at the end of my sentence.
It was a great thing that werewolves had great hearing. I was pulled into a kiss that i didn't know if I was ready for, but still. For the millionth time since I had met Adam,
It made my heart beat pound. I felt alive.
