Ves spread his hands in innocence. "To be fair, I did not insist on having the last word on this matter. I may have voiced my own recommendation, but I generously passed on the final right to decide to Saint Isobel herself. Since she has chosen to let the flaming lady do her thing, then it is clear that our firecracker of an ace pilot wants to embrace change as well."
"YOU JUST ATTEMPTED TO TRANSFER RESPONSIBILITY ONTO SOMEONE ELSE! WHAT IS WORSE IS THAT THIS IS NOT EVEN AN EARNEST EFFORT! EVERYONE FAMILIAR WITH ISOBEL KNOWS THAT SHE IS NOT SOBER AND RATIONAL ENOUGH TO RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF POWER! LETTING HER DECIDE YIELDS THE SAME OUTCOME AS CHOOSING TO INTRODUCE THIS ALIEN POWER SYSTEM TO THE RED OCEAN!"
Gloriana hit the nail on the head.
Ves indeed held these considerations. She didn't have to voice her suspicions out loud, though.
Perhaps it may have been a cheap trick on his part, but these distinctions could make a real difference in a rule-based society.
