Yuuki's eyes widened as he examined the satellite feed.
A fleet of nearly a hundred Siren ships.
There was no way Rosalia's forces could handle something of that size. Her fleet consisted of barely a dozen vessels, submarines included. Against such overwhelming numbers, they would be annihilated.
"Commander..."
Yuuki turned around.
Everyone was looking at him, waiting for his decision.
"Your orders?" Yorktown asked.
As his secretary and primary mother fleet, she was usually the first to help coordinate his command decisions.
Yuuki studied the holographic display for another moment before speaking.
"Jarvis, maintain our current course toward the Lawless City."
"Understood, sir."
Yuuki turned toward the assembled Shipgirls and Nikkes.
"Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Hiryuu, Souryuu, Albion, Centaur, and Weser. Get ready. The seven of you will be commanding the air force and coordinating the bombing squadrons."
"You mean...?" Shoukaku's eyes widened.
"We're going on a sortie?!" Zuikaku exclaimed.
"That's right. I'm sending all seven of you into the operation," Yuuki confirmed.
He then looked toward the experienced carriers.
"Akagi, Kaga, Illustrious, Unicorn, and Houshou, I want you to guide them through the holographic interface. Show them how to operate it, issue commands, and coordinate their squadrons."
Yuuki brought up another authorization window.
"I'm authorizing the deployment of Mark III Firehawks, Mark III Orcas, Orca Bombers, Barracuda Bombers, Lionhearts, and Harbinger Gunships. We'll use them against the Siren fleet."
He raised a hand before anyone could misunderstand.
"The rest of you will remain on standby and observe. We're deploying air units only. No unnecessary sorties from our other forces."
The carriers exchanged excited glances.
"Understood!" Shoukaku answered.
Yuuki then looked toward Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet.
"Hana, Enty, and Hornet..."
"Me?" Hornet pointed at herself.
"I heard the three of you know how to pilot aircraft."
Yorktown nodded.
"Yes. We received flight training and are qualified to pilot aircraft."
Hornet grinned.
"We used to perform acrobatic flights for demonstrations in Eagle Union. We even flew together under the Blue Angels squadron."
"Wow. I never knew that. Blue Angels? Those are special squadron even in my world."
"Pff. You never asked, handsome." Hornet replied. "But yeah, we can fly."
"Then the three of you will be my wingwomen."
Yorktown smiled.
"We're flying together?"
"Not exactly. Come on. I'll show you."
Yuuki led the three toward the command room followed by eager Shipgirls and Nikkes. Even the newly connected Nikkes followed them after Vestal gives the all clear.
The seven designated carrier commanders gathered at the centre of the command floor.
As they stepped onto the platform, the holographic floor beneath their feet illuminated. Lines of light spread outward, forming a massive three-dimensional interface. Numerous control panels and tactical displays emerged around them, each linked to different aircraft squadrons and operational systems.
The entire command floor had been designed to function as a central air operations hub. From there, the carriers could monitor their aircraft, assign targets, coordinate formations, and issue commands across the battlefield.
"Sugoi..."
Shoukaku looked around in amazement.
She had seen Yorktown, Akagi, Kaga, Enterprise, Illustrious, and Houshou using this interface before. The experienced carriers had often operated their aircraft from this very platform, coordinating entire squadrons with a level of precision that traditional carrier operations could hardly match.
However, watching from a distance was one thing.
Actually standing at the centre of the command system was something else entirely.
The other six carriers looked equally impressed.
Yuuki stepped forward.
"Akagi, Kaga, Illustrious, Unicorn, and Houshou. I'll leave the training to you. Teach them how to operate the interface, what each control does, and how to command their squadrons."
He glanced at the authorization display again.
"Oh, and I'm authorizing the Elite Firehawks Mark IV as well. Make sure they understand how to deploy those properly."
Akagi smiled.
"Leave it to us, Shikikan-sama. We'll make sure they learn everything."
Kaga nodded.
"Understood. We'll familiarise them with the controls and establish their operational formations."
Illustrious gave the newcomers an encouraging smile.
"Don't worry. Once you understand the interface, coordinating the squadrons will become much easier."
"Ufufu... We'll guide you through everything," Houshou added.
Unicorn nodded enthusiastically.
"Everyone, let's do our best!"
With the experienced carriers taking their positions, the training began.
Yuuki watched as the holographic interface expanded around the seven new squadron commanders. Their first real sortie under GDI command was about to begin.
"Amagi, you'll be taking Yorktown's place as the strategist for this operation. Show me what the former strategist of the Sakura Empire can do."
Yuuki glanced at her before adding,
"I'm sorry to put you in charge when you've only just awakened. I hope I'm not pushing you too hard."
"Not a problem. I could use a little workout. Leave it to me, Shikikan-sama. I hope my old skills will still prove sufficient."
Amagi smiled gently before stepping onto the main command platform. She took her position at the central interface, ready to coordinate the operation.
Yuu moved beside her, guiding her through the system and explaining how to operate the command interface. Although Amagi was familiar with military strategy, GDI's technology was considerably different from what she had used before. She would need to understand its functions before she could make full use of it.
Yuuki turned toward the carriers.
"Shoukaku, Zuikaku! I'm authorizing the Elite Firehawks Mark IV for both of you. Your priority is air superiority. Show me what the Crane Sisters can do!"
"Hai!" both sisters answered enthusiastically.
"Hiryuu, Souryuu! You'll be commanding the Mark III Firehawk bombers. Shoukaku and Zuikaku will provide air cover while you focus on delivering the payload."
"Hai!"
The two rabbit sisters eagerly explore the interface.
"Albion, Centaur. You'll be operating the Barracuda and Lionheart bombers. Learn quickly and familiarise yourselves with their capabilities. The Barracudas carry powerful bombs, while the Lionhearts are equipped with systems capable of disabling enemy targets with EMP bombs."
"Yes, Elder Commander!" both elves replied.
"Just Commander. You don't need to call me Elder Commander."
The two exchanged glances.
"Understood, Commander!"
Yuuki then turned toward Weser.
"Weser, you'll be controlling two Harbinger Gunships. Unicorn will guide you through their controls. She's quite good at operating them."
"Unicorn will do her best!" Unicorn replied cheerfully.
Weser hesitated, looking somewhat uncertain.
"Herr Kommandant... Can someone like me really handle such advanced aircrafts?"
Yuuki gave her an encouraging smile.
"Hey, your sisters and your new sister are watching. Don't disappoint them. Plus, I trust you to handle it. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy."
Weser glanced toward the others before straightening her posture.
"Understood. I won't let you down!"
"Good. I'll give you thirty minutes to familiarise yourselves with the interface and learn the controls. After that, we'll prepare for sortie."
"Yes, sir!" all seven carriers answered.
Yuuki nodded before turning toward Yuu.
"Yuu, you'll be my second-in-command for this operation. I hope you still remember how to pilot."
"Ufufu... I haven't forgotten, Chief. I am still your old wingman"
Yuu smiled confidently.
Yuuki then looked toward Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet.
"Netty, Enty, Hana. Get ready. You're flying with us."
Hornet immediately perked up.
"Wait, we're actually flying?"
"That's right. Jarvis, activate the Coffin System."
"Sir..." Jarvis acknowledged.
A moment later, several holographic indicators appeared on the command floor. Behind the carrier command platform, five coffin-shaped interfaces gradually emerged from their standby positions.
Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet stared at the unfamiliar equipment.
"Commander... What is this?" Yorktown asked.
Yuuki gestured toward the five devices.
"It's a Connection for Flight Interface system. It allows a pilot to control an aircraft through their thoughts and body movements."
He continued explaining as the system began powering up.
"Aircraft equipped with this technology don't need conventional glass canopies or front windows. Instead, sensors distributed across the aircraft transmit live images of their surroundings directly to the pilot's interface. The information can be displayed on internal screens or transmitted straight into the pilot's mind."
Yuu nodded as she examined the devices.
"In other words, we don't actually need to be inside the aircraft. We can use these Coffin interfaces to control them remotely."
Hornet looked between the equipment and Yuuki, her grin growing wider.
"So... Handsome. We're going to fly without actually getting into a plane? And we're getting to sortie right after you revived us? Ehee... You're really spoiling your gal a lot!"
"Exactly."
Yuuki grinned.
"Welcome to GDI's way of flying. No more worrying about G-forces or blacking out during high-speed maneuvers. We'll be using COPRO systems to control the aircraft through our thoughts and movements. That means we can perform maneuvers that would otherwise be dangerous for a human pilot."
He pointed toward the Coffin interfaces.
"Even if the aircraft gets shot down or blown to pieces, we'll be perfectly safe here. We're controlling the planes remotely, not sitting inside them."
"That's quite convenient," Yorktown remarked.
Enterprise nodded.
"So, what aircraft are we using? Firehawks?"
"Nah..."
Yuuki turned toward Neon.
"Neon..."
"Yeah?"
"Can you strap a laser on a plane?"
Neon blinked.
"That would be impossible! Besides... can you even strap a laser onto a plane? Literally?"
"What if we also equip it with a big missile capable of destroying everything within a five-mile radius? Upwards and downwards, too."
"That kind of firepower exists?!"
Neon was practically bouncing with excitement.
Nimi didn't have the will to stop her bouncing friend.
Yuuki continued as though he hadn't just said something outrageous.
"We could also equip the aircraft with enhanced offensive and defensive systems. Basically, boost their overall performance and give them additional firepower."
"COMMANDER!"
Neon immediately raised her hand.
"Please let me join your squadron! I'll learn how to fly sooner or later!"
"Easy there, girl."
Yuuki chuckled.
"I intend to train the Nikkes to become pilots eventually. I want you girls to support the Shipgirls during naval operations. I can't have you sitting around while everyone else is fighting at sea."
He glanced at the gathered Nikkes.
"Once you receive your Levelling Systems, I'll begin training you to operate aircraft. That way, you'll be able to support your Shipgirl friends directly instead of having to watch from the sidelines."
"Really?! I can finally get inside a proper firepower plane!"
Neon looked as though she could barely contain herself.
Cinderella, who had been listening quietly, also spoke up.
"I can finally support Mother during naval operations."
She turned toward Yorktown, her expression brightening.
Yorktown smiled warmly.
"Of course, Cindy. We'll fight together."
"But... Cindy can fly, right? Why she needed a plane?" Anis asked.
Yuuki chuckled.
"Well, I'm not sure the Sirens and Raptures would appreciate seeing Cinderella flying alongside a naval fleet of shipgirls. Especially when the Rapture Queen is still looking for ways to get her back."
He glanced at Cinderella.
"Having her operate remotely controlled aircraft means she can support the fleet without exposing herself directly. Besides, I have plans for some Cinderella-themed combat aircraft. Shields, lasers, and all sorts of defensive and offensive systems."
His grin widened.
"Just imagine it. A whole squadron of Cinderella-style aircraft causing trouble for the enemy!"
"Ehehe... I look forward to it, my Prince," Cinderella replied sweetly.
The other Nikkes exchanged amused smiles.
For so long, they had been treated as expendable assets, manufactured to fight on the surface and discarded when they were no longer useful. Their roles had been limited to following orders and supporting humanity's survival.
But now, Yuuki was offering them something they had never expected.
They could become pilots. They could learn to operate advanced aircraft, take part in naval operations, and fight alongside their Shipgirl friends in an entirely new way.
They wouldn't have to remain on the sidelines anymore.
For the Nikkes, that possibility alone was something worth looking forward to.
Yuuki finally brought up another holographic display. A detailed three-dimensional model of a fighter aircraft appeared above the command platform.
"Now, this is the aircraft we're going to use."
The Shipgirls and Nikkes looked up.
ADFX-03 Morgan
The sleek, angular aircraft rotated slowly, revealing its reinforced airframe and distinctive design.
"This is the Morgan. The original ADFX-02 was developed alongside the ADFX-01 Morgan by the same manufacturer. Both shared the same basic airframe and performance improvements over conventional fighters, but the ADFX-02 featured several important upgrades."
Yuuki enlarged the aircraft's weapons systems.
"It could carry all three of its special weapons simultaneously: the Zoisite Tactical Laser System, the Hypersthene Multi-Purpose Burst Missile, and the Morganite Electronic Countermeasure Pod."
He highlighted the laser assembly.
"The Tactical Laser System uses internal mirrors and a targeting mechanism to redirect its beam, allowing it to engage targets from different angles. The Electronic Countermeasure Pod provides additional protection by disrupting incoming attacks, helping deflect missiles and gunfire from almost every direction except the front."
Neon was already staring at the display with sparkling eyes.
A plane with a laser, a massive explosive missile, and defensive countermeasures?!
She was beginning to think becoming a pilot might be the greatest career opportunity ever.
Yuuki continued.
"We took that design and developed our own version. The original Morgan was already an impressive aircraft, but our engineers have upgraded it considerably."
He changed the holographic display.
"Introducing the ADFX-03 Morgan!"
The new model appeared, with its upgraded systems highlighted one by one.
"It's part of our advanced dominance fighter class, a Seventh Generation aircraft. Even the standard Firehawks are Sixth Generation, while the Mark IV Firehawks have also reached the Seventh Generation."
He pointed toward the weapon systems.
"We've retained the Tactical Laser System, Multi-Purpose Burst Missile, and Electronic Countermeasure Pod. We've also improved its electronic warfare capabilities by integrating Electronic Support Measures."
Another section of the display illuminated.
"We've added QAAGM—Quick Air-to-Air and Ground Missiles—as its standard missile system. These missiles can engage both aerial and ground targets. Think of them as extremely fast, versatile missiles capable of dealing with almost anything in their engagement range."
Yuuki grinned.
"And to top it off, the Morgan has built-in Chrono Ammo spawning, allowing it to replenish its ammunition during combat."
Neon looked ready to explode with excitement.
"FIREPOWER! FIREPOWER ON A PLANE! I'm getting my pilot's licence soon!"
"Not just you, Sister. I'm applying to become a pilot as well," Anis added.
Rapi crossed her arms, studying the aircraft thoughtfully.
"Hmm. Interesting. I might try it too. That would allow me to support the Commander even during aerial operations."
Yorktown continued examining the holographic model.
"Commander, can our current rigging actually equip something like this?"
Yuuki shook his head.
"Not yet. Seventh Generation fighters aren't recommended for Shipgirls at the moment. We're still working on expanding the aircraft options compatible with your rigging."
He brought up another interface displaying several aircraft categories.
"Currently, once you reach the appropriate level and purchase the necessary components from your shop, you can equip Harriers, Black Eagles, and Stormchild aircraft. We're also adding support aircraft such as the Black Widow and Hummingbird."
He highlighted several upgrade options.
"You'll eventually be able to upgrade those aircraft into their Alpha variants. Your current rigging supports a maximum of four aircraft, but you can expand that capacity to ten."
"Ten?!" Hornet exclaimed.
"Yes. However, you'll still need to purchase each aircraft individually. The good news is that subsequent purchases will be cheaper once you've acquired your first one."
Yuuki continued displaying the planned aircraft categories.
"We'll introduce more aircraft families in the future, including the F-series, A-series, M-series, and E-series."
"What do those letters stand for?" Shoukaku asked.
"Fighter, Attacker, Multirole, and Electronic Warfare. Eventually, once we've figured out the necessary compatibility issues, you girls might even be able to equip Firehawks."
He gave them a warning smile.
"Just remember, those aircraft are expensive."
Enterprise nodded.
"He's right, Sisters. Even those aircraft are incredibly powerful. We'd need to upgrade our hangars and runways to modern standards before we could properly accommodate them."
She looked at the aircraft displayed above them.
"And that's before purchasing the aircraft itself and upgrading it to Elite quality. There's quite a lot of credits involved."
Enterprise sighed playfully.
"I hope I can complete plenty of side quests once this operation is over."
"I'll join you," Yorktown replied.
She glanced toward Yuuki before continuing.
"Besides, this gives us another reason to work toward Level 1000. The Commander can provide us with almost anything, but that doesn't automatically make us stronger."
Yorktown smiled.
"Working toward our equipment, earning credits, and upgrading our own capabilities will make us appreciate what we obtain. Simply having everything handed to us won't help us grow stronger. We should be able to use our credits to improve ourselves rather than just accumulate wealth."
Yuuki smiled at their enthusiasm.
It seemed the Shipgirls had already started planning their next shopping spree.
And judging by the way Neon was still staring at the Morgan, he suspected the Nikkes would soon be joining them.
"Jarvis, prepare five Morgans for us," Yuuki instructed.
"Will do, sir. All five aircraft will be ready in five minutes," Jarvis replied.
"We still have thirty minutes before the operation begins, so why don't you three take some time to familiarize yourselves with the Coffin system? Yuu can guide you through the controls."
Yuuki then turned toward Anis.
"Anis, I have an important task for you."
"Hoooh? What kind of task?" Anis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Let's talk outside for a moment."
Curious, Anis followed him out of the command room. Once they were alone, Yuuki turned to face her with a gentle smile.
"So, Anis. Would you mind singing for us?"
Anis blinked.
"Wait. You want me to do what?!"
"Sing," Yuuki repeated casually.
"Commander, are you serious?!"
"Of course." He chuckled at her reaction. "I've seen your memories, remember? You have an incredible photographic memory. You can memorize lyrics and melodies after hearing them once, and you're even capable of reproducing a singer's tone and vocal patterns. I'm confident you could perform this song in your own style."
"Commander..." Anis hesitated, her expression growing uncertain. "It's been years since I last sang. I don't even know if I can sing properly anymore."
Rather than answering immediately, Yuuki transferred a music file to her interface.
"This is the song I'd like you to sing."
Anis glanced at the file.
"This song was once a symbol of hope," Yuuki explained. "It originally came during an era back in the Third Tiberium War, but during the future wars of my world, pilots listened to it before heading into battle. It became something that inspired them to keep fighting."
He smiled.
"I could simply play the original recording, but I'd rather hear it in your voice. I want you to make it your own."
"I..."
"Anis." His voice softened. "I've seen your past. Your dreams of becoming an idol, your determination, your struggles... and everything that happened afterward."
Anis lowered her gaze.
"You used to stand onstage alongside Mint and Prika, singing for thousands of TTStar fans. People cheered for you, supported you, and looked forward to your performances."
Yuuki paused.
"But eventually, those same fans turned against you. The people who once supported you became the ones who hurt you."
Anis remained silent.
"I'm not asking you to sing for those people," he continued. "I'm asking you to sing for us. For me, for your friends, and for everyone who genuinely cares about you."
He gestured toward the command room.
"Imagine your song becoming one of our favorites. Something the Shipgirls and Nikkes listen to before heading into battle. Something that reminds us why we're fighting and gives us the courage to keep going."
Anis looked up at him.
"You don't need millions of fans, Anis. You don't need to fill an enormous stadium or prove anything to the people who abandoned you."
Yuuki placed a hand over his chest.
"You have us. Me, your friends, the Shipgirls, and the Nikkes. Maybe we're a smaller audience than you're used to, but we'll be cheering for you."
Her lips parted slightly, though no words came out.
"Of course, the decision is yours," Yuuki added. "You can sing if you want to, or you can refuse. I'm not going to force you. I just thought it might be nice to hear you sing again."
He grinned.
"Besides, I did promise I'd become your fan, remember?"
"Oh, you..." Anis muttered, looking away to hide her smile.
Yuuki gently patted her head.
"I care about you, Anis. Especially after everything we've shared through our connection."
"Pfft!" Anis burst into laughter. "Seriously, Commander? Is that your best love confession?"
"More or less." Yuuki grinned shamelessly.
"You're hopeless."
"Maybe. But I meant every word." He chuckled. "And don't forget, you have plenty of friends now. Shipgirls, Nikkes, and everyone else aboard Daedalus. We're all here for you."
Anis stared at him for a moment before letting out a soft laugh.
"Heh... You know, Commander, that's already more fans than I could ask for."
Her expression gradually softened.
"I used to think I needed thousands of people cheering my name. Maybe even millions. But after everything that happened..." She shook her head. "I don't think I want that anymore."
She smiled.
"I don't need a million fans. I just need people who genuinely support me. People who actually want to hear me sing. Even if they're less than a hundred."
"And you've got them," Yuuki assured her.
"Yeah..." Anis whispered. "I guess I do."
She looked at the music file floating on her interface. After a moment of hesitation, she turned back toward him.
"Commander... can you promise me something?"
"Of course. What is it?"
"Do you remember Pretty? From my memories?"
Yuuki nodded.
"Yeah. The idol who inspired you."
"That's right."
Anis took a breath.
"There's something I haven't told you. Pretty was a Nikke, too. And like other Nikkes, she had a cube core."
Yuuki listened carefully.
"Her cube is supposed to be stored somewhere in the Ark," Anis continued. "I don't know exactly where, but... if it's still there..."
She hesitated before meeting his eyes.
"Commander, you brought Netty back, didn't you?"
"Yes."
"Then... could you bring Pretty back, too?"
Yuuki considered her question.
"I haven't had the opportunity to examine a Nikke's Bastion Cube yet, so I can't guarantee anything. But based on what I know about Nikke technology and our modified resurrection systems, there's a good chance it could work."
Anis's eyes widened.
"Really?"
"Really. If we can find Pretty's cube and it's still intact, we can study it and attempt the resurrection process."
He smiled reassuringly.
"There's a possibility Pretty could come back to us."
Anis slowly nodded, holding on to those words.
"Pretty must mean a great deal to you," Yuuki observed.
"Yeah... She does."
Anis turned toward the distant horizon.
"She's the reason I'm still here, Commander. The reason I wanted to sing in the first place."
Her voice grew quieter.
"Back then, when everything felt hopeless, Pretty's songs gave me something to believe in. She made me want to keep going."
Anis smiled faintly.
"She never knew me. To her, I was probably just another fan in the crowd. But to me... she was someone who made life worth living."
Yuuki remained silent, allowing her to continue.
"If we could bring her back, I'd finally have the chance to tell her how much she mattered. How much her songs meant to me."
She clenched her hands.
"I want her to know that she saved someone, even without realizing it."
"I see..." Yuuki murmured.
He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"Then promise me something in return."
Anis turned toward him.
"What?"
"When we bring Pretty back, I want you to become her friend."
Anis blinked.
"Me? Pretty's friend?!"
"Why not?"
"Commander, we're talking about Pretty!"
"And?" Yuuki asked with an amused smile. "She's still a person, isn't she?"
"Well, yeah, but—"
"Then there's no reason you can't be friends."
He chuckled.
"Once she's back, she'll be part of our family. She'll need people to help her adjust, especially if the world she remembers has changed. You can be there for her, introduce her to everyone, and make sure she doesn't feel alone."
Anis stared at him.
"And who knows?" Yuuki continued. "Maybe one day we'll find Mint and Prika, too. Then we can finally assemble our very own group of misfit idols."
"Pfft! Misfit idols?!" Anis laughed. "Commander, that's a terrible name!"
"What's wrong with it? I think it has charm."
"Only you would think that!"
"Hey, I'm already your biggest fan. That should count for something."
Anis shook her head, still laughing.
"Heh... Fine. If that day ever comes, I'll look forward to it."
Her gaze returned to the music file.
"And as for this song..."
She hesitated, then smiled.
"Give me a moment, okay?"
"Take your time."
Yuuki smiled and gave her head another affectionate pat.
Before he could withdraw his hand, however, Anis suddenly caught his wrist and pulled him closer.
"Whoa—Anis?"
She leaned forward and kissed him.
Yuuki blinked in surprise as she pulled away, wearing a mischievous grin.
"That's for making me do this, Commander."
Yuuki chuckled.
"Then I'd say it was worth it."
He leaned forward and gently kissed her forehead.
"I'll leave you to prepare. Come back whenever you're ready."
"Yeah. See you in a bit."
With one last smile, Yuuki turned and headed back toward the command room.
Anis watched him disappear through the entrance before looking down at the music file once more.
"He really knows how to get to me..." she murmured, smiling to herself.
She activated the interface's virtual earbuds function, allowing the music to play directly into her mind.
The opening melody began to flow through her consciousness.
Anis closed her eyes.
She listened carefully, letting every note, every rhythm, and every emotion settle into her memory.
For a while, she simply stood there, allowing herself to feel the music.
And somewhere beneath the nervousness and uncertainty, the passion she had once poured into every performance began to stir again.
Anis was so absorbed in the music that she barely noticed someone nudging her.
She opened her eyes and found Rapi and Neon standing beside her.
"Hmm? Why are you two...?"
"Having the Commander all to yourself, huh?" Neon teased. "We had a deal, remember?"
"Hey! He was the one who came to me!" Anis protested.
"Pfft. Whatever." Neon grinned. "Mind sharing that song with us?"
"Eh?"
"You're the singer, Anis, but you still need a band to make it happen," Rapi explained. "I can play the guitar."
Anis looked between them in surprise.
"And you know I can play the drums, right?" Neon added, adjusting her glasses. "If your song can boost our firepower like the Shipgirls' skills, then we should perform it as a band! Imagine the power of music combined with firepower!"
"Neon, that's not how music works..." Anis muttered.
"Who says it can't?"
"You two..." Anis sighed, though a smile was beginning to form on her face. "Still, we need a bassist and a backup singer. The song the Commander gave me is quite—"
"Hoo? Are you having trouble putting a band together?"
Anis turned toward the familiar voice.
"Eugen? Hipper?"
Prinz Eugen approached with her sister, Hipper, and Kancolle Prinz Eugen.
"Mind if we fill those roles?" Eugen asked with a mischievous grin. "I can handle the backup vocals."
"It's not like I particularly want to join your band or anything," Hipper said, crossing her arms and looking away.
"Hehe. Sis is trying to say she can play the bass," Eugen helpfully explained.
"Something like that," Hipper grumbled.
Anis blinked.
"Wait, really? You'd all be willing to join?"
"Why not?" Eugen replied. "It sounds entertaining."
"But we still need someone to play the keyboard," Anis pointed out.
"Umm..."
A timid voice came from behind Hipper.
Prinz had raised her hand slightly, looking rather nervous.
"I... I can play."
Everyone turned toward her.
"You can, Prinz?" Eugen asked, looking pleasantly surprised at her alternate self.
"Eeep!" Prinz flinched under everyone's attention. "Y-Yes! I mean... I can play almost anything after listening to it. I can definitely help you with the keyboard!"
Neon adjusted her glasses again, examining the group.
A band consisting of Nikkes, Shipgirls, and even Kancolle Shipgirls.
Now that was something worth seeing.
Anis looked around at everyone. Rapi, Neon, Eugen, Hipper, and Prinz. Each of them had volunteered to help her without hesitation.
"Everyone..." she whispered.
Her eyes began to water.
"Hey, don't start crying on us," Eugen said, giving her shoulder a gentle pat. "You're our friend. Sharing our talents and helping one another is only natural."
"That's right," Rapi added. "We're not just comrades."
"Exactly!" Prinz nodded enthusiastically, despite her earlier nervousness.
"Y-Yes! Sis always told me that I should make friends with Nikkes, too. So... I'd like us to become friends!"
Anis wiped the corner of her eye, smiling.
"Pfft... You guys..."
Eugen gave her shoulder another reassuring pat.
"You watched our backs before. Now it's our turn to watch yours."
Rapi nodded.
"You don't have to stand on stage alone anymore, Anis."
Neon raised her fist excitedly.
"And when we perform, we'll give it everything we've got! A musical performance with the firepower of a battleship!"
"Please don't turn every performance into a military operation, Neon," Rapi sighed.
"Why not?!"
Everyone laughed.
Anis looked down at the song file on her interface once more. Then she raised her head, her earlier uncertainty replaced by a bright, genuine smile.
"Alright, everyone. Let's make this the best version of the song we can!"
She held out her hand.
"Let's sing it for everyone!"
Rapi placed her hand over Anis's.
"Count me in."
Neon quickly piled her hand on top.
"Let's rock!"
Eugen joined them with a playful smile, followed by Hipper and Prinz.
"Then it's settled," Eugen declared.
"Yeah!" everyone cheered together.
Anis immediately shared the song file with the others.
"We have twenty minutes before the operation begins," she said, looking around at her newly formed band. "I hope we can put together our own version by then. It doesn't have to be perfect. I just want us to perform it together."
She glanced at the song's title on her interface before smiling.
"For the Commander... and for all our friends."
"Hoohoho..." Eugen hummed as she listened to the opening melody. "What an interesting song. It has quite a beautiful arrangement."
"It's beautiful," Prinz remarked softly.
Neon nodded enthusiastically. "Absolutely! The melody is wonderful!"
Rapi listened quietly for a few more seconds before giving a small nod.
"It's a good song."
Hipper crossed her arms, studying the notes that appeared on her interface.
"Well, we'd better not screw this up."
"Come on, Sis! Have a little confidence!" Eugen teased.
"I'm being realistic!"
Anis laughed at their exchange before taking charge.
"Alright, everyone. Let's divide the parts first. Rapi, you'll handle the guitar. Neon, take the drums. Hipper, you'll be on bass, and Prinz will handle the keyboard. Eugen, I want you to help with the backup vocals."
She then brought up the song's arrangement and began sharing the relevant sections with each of them.
"We don't have much time, so let's focus on getting the main melody and rhythm right. We can work out the finer details as we go."
Everyone nodded and began examining their assigned parts.
Anis took a moment to listen to the song again, carefully memorizing its rhythm and vocal arrangement.
"Once the operation begins, we'll have to coordinate around the combat situation," she continued. "We might not have another opportunity to practice before the mission ends, so let's make the most of these twenty minutes."
Neon gave her a confident thumbs-up.
"Leave the rhythm to me!"
"And I'll make sure we stay on tempo," Rapi added.
"Just don't expect me to go easy on the bass," Hipper remarked.
Eugen chuckled. "Naturally. I'll make sure our vocals sound wonderful."
Prinz nodded nervously but determinedly.
"I-I'll do my best, too!"
Anis smiled at them.
"Good. Then let's get started!"
With that, the newly assembled band began preparing their own rendition of the song. They had little time and no guarantee that everything would go smoothly, but none of them seemed particularly concerned.
They weren't doing this for an audience of thousands.
They were doing it for their friends, their comrades, and the Commander who had given Anis a reason to sing again.
=====================
Soon, the five ADFX-03 Morgans were lined up on Daedalus's runway, ready for deployment.
They weren't alone. A dozen Mark III Firehawks and another dozen Elite Mark IV Firehawks occupied the adjacent launch lanes. Six Barracudas and six Lionhearts were positioned behind them, accompanied by two Harbinger Gunships.
The entire air force was assembled and ready for takeoff.
Among the five Morgans, four had distinctive red markings painted across their right wings. The lead aircraft, however, stood out with two dark blue markings on its wings, identifying it as the squadron leader.
One by one, the aircraft began powering up. Their engines roared to life as the ground drones completed their final checks. Diagnostic lights flashed across their control panels while the aircraft's systems synchronized with Daedalus's command network.
The assigned commanders were already in position.
Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Hiryuu, Souryuu, Albion, Centaur, and Weser had completed their preparations, with their respective squadrons and units assigned. Every aircraft had its designated COPROs, and the command structure was ready.
There was, however, one last-minute addition.
Irisviel had joined the operation to provide additional support using Hummingbirds and Black Widows. She would be controlling four of each aircraft, giving the attacking force eight additional support fighters.
"Please treat this humble one well," Irisviel said with a playful grin.
The other shipgirls and nikkes had gathered outside the main command stage, taking their seats in the standby area to observe the operation. They would monitor the battlefield and remain ready to provide assistance if needed.
Amagi stood at the centre of the command stage.
With Yorktown sortieing alongside Yuuki, Amagi had been entrusted with coordinating the entire attacking force. She would serve as the main commander overseeing the operation.
Akagi watched her with teary eyes.
"Ganbare, Amagi-neesama..."
Seeing Amagi standing there, healthy and free from the illness that had once plagued her, brought tears of happiness to Akagi's eyes. Her beloved elder sister was finally able to take command again, this time leading an entire attacking squadron.
Amagi smiled at her.
"Akagi, there is no need to worry. I shall do my best."
Even so, she couldn't deny that the responsibility was somewhat overwhelming.
Kaguya stepped forward and offered her encouragement.
"Thou hast this, Amagi. Iris as well."
"Thank you, Kaguya."
Amagi glanced across the assembled commanders.
"This is my first time commanding these squadrons. I shall be relying on everyone's cooperation. Please guide this one well."
Irisviel smiled and gave her a reassuring nod.
"Of course. Thou can count on us."
Yuuki then addressed the pilots who would be operating the Morgans through their Coffin systems.
"I'll leave the squadron coordination to all of you. I'll take the lead as flight commander. For our callsign, let's go with Galm Team."
Yuu immediately responded.
"I'll take Galm Two."
Hornet raised her hand enthusiastically.
"Galm Three!"
Yorktown smiled.
"Galm Four."
Enterprise gave a firm nod.
"Galm Five."
With their callsigns established, the five pilots made their way toward their respective Coffin systems, positioned behind the leading aircraft squadrons.
Each Coffin chamber opened, allowing its operator to step inside. Once everyone was settled, the systems began activating.
The connection was almost instantaneous.
Live feeds from the Morgans' onboard cameras and sensors were transmitted directly into the Coffin interfaces. The surrounding environment appeared around the operators, giving them a real-time view from their aircraft's perspective.
Holographic control panels materialized before them, accompanied by fully functional flight sticks and other control interfaces.
The system was surprisingly straightforward.
The pilots didn't need to worry about the complicated procedures normally associated with operating an advanced fighter. Most of the aircraft's functions were automated and integrated with Daedalus's satellite network.
===========
Their primary controls consisted of:
Weapon Selection: Switching between the aircraft's available weapons and combat systems.
Attack: Engaging designated targets.
Flight Stick: Controlling the aircraft's pitch and roll.
Acceleration and Deceleration: Adjusting the aircraft's speed.
Yaw Control: Changing the aircraft's heading.
Radar: Monitoring the surrounding airspace and battlefield.
Flares: Pop flares if necessary.
=============
Target acquisition was also handled through satellite uplinks. Enemy positions and relevant battlefield information would be automatically relayed to the pilots, allowing them to engage targets without manually searching for every hostile unit.
The Coffin system also eliminated several of the greatest dangers associated with piloting a conventional aircraft.
There was no need to worry about the intense G-forces experienced during high-speed maneuvers. The operators wouldn't feel the aircraft's physical movements, nor would they need to worry about ejecting if their fighters were destroyed.
Even if a Morgan was shot down, its operator would remain safely inside the Coffin chamber.
They were controlling the aircraft remotely through the Connection for Flight Interface system, not physically sitting inside the cockpit.
Yuuki examined the interface before giving a satisfied nod.
"Everything looks good. Let's get ready for takeoff."
"Holy! It's just like being inside the aircraft!" Hornet exclaimed, looking around at the simulated cockpit. "I can feel my muscle memory coming back!"
"Indeed," Yorktown replied with a nostalgic smile. "It's been quite a while since we last flew together as the Blue Angels."
Hornet grinned as she moved the virtual flight stick.
"Hey, Handsome! You won't mind if I try a few stunts with this plane, right? I want to test some of my old maneuvers!"
"Go ahead and have fun," Yuuki replied. "The ADFX-03 Morgan has only seen limited flight testing, so this is a good opportunity to explore its capabilities. We can't improve an aircraft without understanding its limits, after all."
"Ufufu... I guess I'm not the only stunt pilot here, eh, Chief?" Yuu chimed in.
"That's Hornet for you," Yuuki replied with a grin.
He brought up the Morgan's technical specifications on the shared interface.
"Besides, this is the first aircraft in the ADFX series despite it held ADF-02 name, even though we've designated it as ADFX-03. The X stands for experimental. We already have the standard ADF series prepared, but we decided to retain the X designation for this model because it sounds cooler."
He paused, then added with a grin.
"Besides, the ADFX-03 is no longer considered an experimental prototype. We've completed its development."
"Wait, ADF-02?" Enterprise asked. "Why not ADF-01?"
"Because the ADF-01 already has an owner."
Yuuki brought up another set of aircraft blueprints.
Yuu listened closely. Unlike the others, she hadn't been around during the World Wars, so much of this history was new to her.
"The ADF-01F is the Falken. We also have the ADA-01 Type A and Type B. The 01F designation refers to the Falken, while the ADA-01 variants are called Adlers."
Yorktown tilted her head.
"What's the difference between them?"
"The ADF-01, codenamed FALKEN, is an advanced dominance fighter developed sometime between the Second and Third World Wars. Back then, Gründer Industries attempted to create something called the Zone of Endless, or Z.O.E. It was an AI program designed to develop a powerful autonomous fighter capable of disrupting the course of World War III."
Yuuki chuckled.
"That's quite a story in itself. I'll tell you about Z.O.E. another day."
He continued explaining the aircraft family.
"The ADA-01A and ADA-01B were derived from the Falken design to create attacker variants. One carries the MPBM, just like our Morgan, while the other uses something called the SDBM."
Enterprise looked curious.
"What exactly is an SDBM?"
"Special Destructive Burst Missile. Imagine taking an MPBM and shrinking it into a collection of miniature missiles. Now imagine ten of those packed into a single missile and launched together."
"Wow..." Enterprise stared at the specifications. "Your GDI really does have some insane weapons."
"Not quite. We acquired those blueprints later. The original designs came from Gründer Industries, a South German military arms manufacturer."
Yuuki leaned back slightly.
"You've probably heard about how the Empire of the Rising Sun emerged as a third major power during the world wars. What you might not know is that Germany had its own faction operating in secret. They eventually became involved in a smaller-scale conflict, deploying their own advanced fighters."
He smiled faintly.
"Trust me, those Germans were something else. The ADFX-01 and ADF-02 were among their creations. They were used by several ambitious factions seeking to redraw national borders and put an end to the conflict between the Allies, the Soviets, and the Empire of the Rising Sun. GDI later acquired and improved upon their designs, which eventually led to the development of the ADFX-02 Morgan and our current ADFX-03."
"Wait, so this Morgan was derived from the ADFX-02?" Yorktown asked.
"That's right. We've upgraded it with GDI technology. Gründer Industries developed the original ADF designs, including the Falken and Adler variants. Their technology and engineering concepts also influenced the development of our Firehawks."
Yuuki shook his head with an amused expression.
"Honestly, Gründer Industries was quite a pain to deal with during the Third World War. They were responsible for some of the most troublesome weapons we encountered."
He paused before adding:
"And don't even get me started on the XFA series."
"HOLY! There's more?!" Hornet exclaimed.
Yuuki laughed.
"Don't let Neon find out about all these aircraft. She'll probably demand blueprints for every single one."
He began counting them off.
"We have the A-series, F-series, M-series, E-series, XFA-series, and the ADF family, including the experimental ADFX variants. That's quite a lot of aircraft families."
Hornet shook her head in disbelief.
"Handsome, you've just made us even more curious."
She glanced at the Morgan's simulated cockpit before looking back at him.
"I remember seeing an F-14 Tomcat once. Is there any chance we could use those as our rigging aircraft? They're quite old, but I've always wanted to fly one. I can't wait to try one someday!"
Yuuki gave her a knowing smile.
"One day."
"Heh! Can't wait!" Hornet replied enthusiastically.
Yorktown chuckled at her sister's excitement while Enterprise continued examining the aircraft specifications.
It seemed the Morgan wasn't the only thing they had to look forward to.
A moment later, Jarvis's voice came through the communication channel.
"Galm Team, proceed to Runway One. Galm Two, follow the lead aircraft."
"Shall we, Yuu?" Yuuki asked.
"Certainly."
The two began maneuvering their Morgans toward the designated runway, with the remaining three aircraft following behind.
Once they reached their assigned positions, the flight controllers began confirming their readiness.
"Galm Three, ready to taxi."
"Righto!" Hornet replied.
She glanced over the Morgan's weapon systems, examining the available armaments with growing excitement. She couldn't wait to put them to use against the Sirens.
"Netty..." Yorktown sighed.
"What? I'm just checking my weapons!"
"Just make sure you don't get carried away."
"Hehe. No promises!"
"Galm Four, ready to taxi," Yorktown reported.
"Galm Five, ready to taxi," Enterprise followed.
Yuuki checked the formation through his interface.
"Everyone ready?"
"Ready," Yuu answered.
"Ready here!" Hornet replied.
"Ready," Yorktown confirmed.
Enterprise gave a firm nod.
"Ready."
With all five aircraft in position, Jarvis issued the final clearance.
"Galm Team, all aircraft are cleared for launch."
Yuuki tightened his grip on the virtual flight stick.
"Galm One, launching!"
"Galm Two, launching!"
"Galm Three, launching!"
"Galm Four, launching!"
"Galm Five, launching!"
One after another, the five Morgans accelerated down the runway. Their engines roared as they gathered speed, and their landing gear lifted from the surface.
Within moments, Galm Team was airborne.
Five advanced fighters climbed into the sky above Daedalus, beginning their first sortie together.
Yuuki gently maneuvered his Morgan through the sky. It had been quite a while since he'd last piloted a fighter jet, even if he was only controlling it virtually through the Coffin system.
Still, the familiar sensation of handling an aircraft brought back old memories.
"Galm One, this is Galm Two. Joining on your starboard."
"Galm One, this is Galm Three. Joining on your port."
"Galm Two, this is Galm Four. Joining on your starboard."
"Galm Three, this is Galm Five. Joining on your port."
Yuuki glanced around as the other Morgans approached one by one, taking their assigned positions. Before long, all five aircraft had assembled into formation.
Meanwhile, the remaining squadrons continued launching from Daedalus. Their aircraft climbed into the sky, gradually joining the formation under the command of their respective leaders.
"Galm One, this is Amagi. All flights have launched and are now under the control of their individual commanders. We are proceeding on bearing three-one-zero. How copy?"
"This is Galm One. Roger. Heading three-one-zero in a flight of five. All units, Master Arm on. I repeat, Master Arm on."
"Understood!" came the replies from the other pilots.
"Good flight, everyone," Yuuki added. "Maintain an altitude above five thousand meters. Avoid remaining inside the clouds for too long to prevent icing."
"Understood!" Hornet responded.
"This is awesome!" Hornet shouted over the communications channel. "It's even better than flying on broomsticks!"
"Don't let Mecklenburg hear you say that," Yuuki replied.
"Hehe. Commander, can I test the Morgan's maneuverability a little?"
Before Yuuki could answer, Hornet's aircraft suddenly broke formation.
"Netty, what are you—"
Her Morgan pitched downward, rolled sharply, and then pulled up into a steep climb.
"Let's dance!"
"She's even more eager than I used to be," Yuu remarked with a sigh.
Despite being a doctor, Yuu was also an exceptional pilot. She could maneuver aircraft through tight spaces with remarkable precision and even keep up with Yuuki in the air. Her experience operating the planes and Iron Man Rescue Armor had given her considerable aerial combat experience.
Hornet, meanwhile, began putting the Morgan through a series of aerobatic maneuvers.
"Half roll!"
The Morgan rotated through the air before Hornet pulled it into a sharp turn.
"Nine o'clock turn!"
She dropped the aircraft into another maneuver, adjusting its position before executing a snap roll.
"Good wind... and snap roll!"
Her Morgan spun through the sky with impressive precision, completing one maneuver after another before returning to a stable flight path.
"Wow! Are those the maneuvers you learned during your Blue Angels days?" Yuuki asked.
"Yeah!" Hornet replied proudly. "The three of us used to perform aerobatics together. Sis can do even better than me!"
Yorktown chuckled softly.
"I'm getting a little dizzy just watching you. It's been a while since I've flown, you know."
"I'm fine as dandy, Hana!" Hornet replied cheerfully.
Yorktown sighed.
"You were only recently revived, and you've already gone straight into flying combat aircraft. If these planes didn't have the Coffin system, I would have barred you from flying."
"Oh, come on!" Hornet protested.
"She's just worried about you, Netty," Enterprise reminded her.
"Enty, you're supposed to be on my side!"
Enterprise chuckled.
Yuuki watched Hornet's aircraft return to formation before asking,
"So, do the three of you know any post-stall maneuvers?"
"Of course!" Hornet answered immediately. "The Pugachev's Cobra, Kulbit, Knife-Edge Slide... We can pull those off!"
"I see. I guess the three of you really are something."
"Don't pay attention only to them, Shikikan-sama," Amagi interjected through the communications channel. "You have the rest of us as well."
Yuuki smiled.
"I know, Amagi. I know."
By then, the other squadrons had begun catching up.
The Mark III and Mark IV Firehawks joined the formation, followed by the Orcas and support aircraft. The six Barracudas and six Lionhearts took their assigned positions, while the two Harbinger Gunships maintained their places behind the main attacking force.
Irisviel's Hummingbirds and Black Widows also moved into their designated support formations.
The sky above Daedalus was gradually filled with aircraft, each squadron maintaining its assigned position as they headed toward their destination.
Yuuki glanced across the formation, watching the various aircraft settle into their flight paths.
"I know, Amagi. It's just hard not to pay attention to them. Those three are former Blue Angels pilots, after all."
Hornet gave a triumphant laugh.
"See? Even Handsome knows we're impressive!"
"Netty, please focus on your flight," Yorktown reminded her.
"Hehe. I'm focusing, Sis!"
Yuuki shook his head with an amused smile.
It looked like this mission would be anything but boring.
"Hey! Don't forget about us!" Shoukaku called over the communications channel.
"Shoukaku-nee!" Zuikaku chimed in.
"This is exciting. My first fight in years!" Hiryuu exclaimed.
"Yes, it is," Souryuu agreed. "Yorktown-san, let's continue our study session later."
Yorktown let out a weary sigh.
"You really wanted to become vice secretary, huh? I already have so much to worry about. And Cindy won't leave me alone. That girl can be rather clingy."
"She even slept next to you last night, Sis," Enterprise added.
"Sigh... Right?" Yorktown replied.
"I'm getting nervous. Sortying alongside the other elders..." Albion admitted.
"Just take a deep breath, Sister," Centaur reassured her.
"Ah, fighting alongside dear allies once again. Let us do our best!" Irisviel said cheerfully.
"These aircraft are enormous. How in the world does Unicorn manage to control these monsters?" Weser wondered. She clenched her fist. "I can't afford to lose!"
" Ara... We're really a team of inexperienced air units going up against a hundred Siren ships," Amagi remarked. "Still, I'll do my best to lead everyone."
"That's right," Yuuki replied. "We'll divide the engagement into two main groups. Amagi will coordinate the overall operation, while each of you will command your assigned squadrons."
He brought up the tactical hologram, highlighting the approaching Siren forces.
"The first group will be responsible for engaging the main Siren fleet. Shoukaku, Zuikaku, Hiryuu, Souryuu, Albion, Centaur, Weser, and Irisviel will lead their respective aircraft and support units. Your priority is to intercept the approaching Siren ships and prevent them from advancing toward Rosalia's Fifth Fleet."
He then highlighted another section of the hologram, showing the large number of aircraft approaching from above.
"The second group will be us, The Galm Team. We'll take the five ADFX-03 Morgans and engage the Siren aircraft operating at high altitude. Their aerial force consists of more than a hundred bombers, and we need to eliminate them before they can attack our main force or reach the sanctuary."
Yuuki expanded the hologram, revealing another cluster of enemy contacts.
"There's also a second wave of approximately two hundred Siren reinforcement ships approaching behind the first fleet. Once we've dealt with the immediate aerial threat, we'll assist with intercepting those reinforcements."
He looked across the formation.
"Remember, our objective is to destroy the enemy forces before the fifth fleet gets close enough to become involved. Amagi will oversee the operation and coordinate our movements. The rest of you should focus on your assigned targets and support one another."
"Understood!" the Shipgirls responded.
"Umm... Shikikan-sama? May I ask why you chose us to handle this operation? You could have assigned the more experienced shipgirls to lead it instead," Amagi asked.
Yuuki chuckled.
"Because I trust you girls. I know you can handle it. Besides, the units under your command are heavily armored. They're not going to be easily shot down, so you don't have to worry too much about losing aircraft."
He paused, allowing the information to sink in before continuing.
"Of course, that doesn't mean you can simply send them charging into the enemy. You still need proper coordination and must prioritize which targets to engage first. This operation is also an opportunity for all of you to gain experience using the GDI command interface."
Yuuki gestured toward the holographic display.
"Sure, I could let the drones handle everything. I can even control the ships, drones, and fighter jets myself if I wanted to. But I'd rather have them controlled by people who know what they're doing. That's why I want you girls to take command."
His expression softened as he looked across the formation.
"You're all members of my GDI staff. I believe in every one of you. Some of you may be inexperienced, but that's exactly why you need opportunities like this. You won't gain experience by sitting on the sidelines."
He grinned.
"Now, show me the power of the carriers from the other factions!"
"Thank you... Shikikan-sama," Amagi replied, visibly touched by his confidence in them.
Yuuki gave her an encouraging nod.
"Besides, you're my strategist, Amagi. I trust you to lead the operation while I take these four into the skies. I'll leave the coordination of the main force to you."
Amagi smiled.
"Understood. I won't let you down, Shikikan-sama."
"Yosh! I'll show Shikikan-sama that we're capable of handling this too, Zuikaku!" Shoukaku declared.
"Yosh!" Zuikaku replied enthusiastically.
"Trust, huh? Then let's show him what we can do, Sis," Hiryuu said.
"Indeed. A vice secretary shouldn't be weak, after all," Souryuu added with a smile.
"Huaa... The elder commander is counting on us, Sister!" Centaur exclaimed.
"Let's do our best," Albion said firmly.
"This humble one shall also give it her all," Irisviel declared. "I cannot let Kaguya outshine me, after all."
"I'll show them the power of the Admiral Hipper-class's only carrier!" Weser announced confidently.
"Ufufuu... Chief, you've certainly gotten them fired up," Yuu remarked.
"Yeah! I'm getting pumped up too!" Hornet chimed in.
Yorktown smiled faintly.
"I suppose they don't need me watching over them all the time."
"That's right. We can focus on doing what we do best, Sis," Enterprise replied.
"Then let's go, everyone!" Yuuki called out.
"Yeah!"
Just as the aircraft formation began moving toward its destination, a small, drone-sized aircraft suddenly zipped past them. It performed a quick spin, dipped downward, and circled back to join the formation.
"What was that? Who's flying it?" Hornet asked.
"That's Grimm," Yuuki answered casually.
"Grimm? My eagle?!" Yorktown exclaimed. "How?"
"Grimm wouldn't miss the chance to show his mom what he can do," Yuuki explained with a grin. "Besides, he can transform into an ADF-11 drone to reach hypersonic speeds. Yeah, he's fast."
"Screeech!"
A familiar eagle's cry came through the communications channel, despite the aircraft's mechanical appearance.
"He can fire missiles, but his primary weapons are pulse lasers and cannons. His main role in this operation is target designation and diversion. He's also incredibly agile. He can perform maneuvers that make him difficult for even CIWS and missile systems to hit."
"Oh..." Enterprise murmured. "I guess Grimm really was holding back all this time. He usually stays in his eagle form instead of transforming into this tiny drone jet."
"You really haven't shown me everything, have you, Grimm?" Yorktown asked, looking at the little aircraft.
"Well, he doesn't need to use this form unless he needs to reach hypersonic speeds. Even his eagle form is incredibly fast," Yuuki explained. "The ADF-11 transformation is mainly for when he needs that extra speed. He's actually faster than our fighters."
Yuuki paused before continuing.
"Also, what you're seeing now is only his head. His main drone body is still back on Daedalus. He needs that larger body when he wants to carry armaments. And Grimm can transform further, from the ADF-11 into an ADF-11F Raven. That's why we named the ADF-11F Raven after him. His callsign is Raven."
"Wow..." Hornet exclaimed. "Your pet is something else, Sis."
"Wait, we have ADF-11s?" Yorktown asked.
"It's a detachable drone jet. Grimm was the first to gain it as a transformation," Yuuki explained. "He can even transform into an ADF-11F Raven by summoning his other body when he needs to carry armaments. Attach in midair and become an invincible powerhouse. We can pilot our own ADF-11F Ravens, but Grimm is different. His ADF-11 form is his own second body."
Yorktown laughed softly.
Yorktown laughed softly.
"I suppose we should have realized that when Neon annoyed him so much that he actually chased her around. Grimm was really going easy on her."
"And he eats a lot," Enterprise added with a giggle.
"Hey, Grimm has his limits too!" Yuuki chuckled.
"We're really an overpowered squadron," Hornet remarked.
"Wait... Is that the same eagle we saw back in the hall?" Shoukaku asked.
"I don't even know what to believe anymore, Sis, An eagle can transform into a hypersonic jet?" Zuikaku admitted.
Amagi giggled as she watched Grimm circle around the formation.
"Well, he's fast, and he can annoy the Sirens while we attack them. Why not?"
============
Meanwhile, aboard the fifth fleet, Rosalia stood on the deck, gazing anxiously at the distant horizon.
Would GDI really come to their aid?
They were still two hundred miles away from entering the Sirens' attack range. Once they crossed that distance, the enemy would be able to engage them. Without reinforcements, the fifth fleet could be wiped out.
Rosalia sighed and glanced at the communicator in her hand.
Half an hour had passed.
Another question continued to trouble her. How had the Sirens discovered the fifth fleet's location?
Their position was supposed to be extremely well concealed. The fleet's signal scramblers and invisibility systems were more than sufficient to hide them from Siren detection. No one should have been able to locate them.
Yet somehow, the Sirens had found them and dispatched squadrons of aircraft and warships to intercept their fleet.
If they couldn't break through the enemy blockade, the fifth fleet would be destroyed.
"Will they even come...?" Rosalia murmured.
"Madam President, we need to get you off this ship," a nearby sergeant urged.
Rosalia turned toward him and shook her head.
"No."
"No?"
"You heard me. I requested their assistance. I'm staying here."
"The Diving Eagle..." The sergeant hesitated. "Will they really come to our aid?"
"I don't know," Rosalia admitted. "He told me to give him thirty minutes."
She turned her gaze back toward the horizon, gripping the communicator a little tighter.
"I trust you, Yuuki."
Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Please... come to our aid."
