The walk back to the apartment felt lighter, not because the bags were. Will had somehow managed to buy enough snacks and drinks to feed half of Brisbane.
I still couldn't stop smiling.
"I can't believe you bought this much."
Will adjusted the two grocery bags hanging from either arm before letting out an exaggerated groan.
"I've made a terrible mistake."
I laughed.
"You've carried them for five minutes."
"My back's gone."
He puffed dramatically.
"I can already see tomorrow's headline."
He cleared his throat.
"Local idiot crushed beneath the weight of party snacks before celebration even begins."
I snorted.
"They'd interview Ryan."
"Oh, absolutely."
Will nodded seriously.
"'He was a good bloke...'"
He placed a hand over his heart.
"'...but he insisted on buying the family-sized Doritos.'"
I burst into laughter.
"You are such an idiot."
"I've been told."
The familiar apartment complex finally came into view.
