ARCHIVES OF THE DIVIDED CONTINENTS
Volume 7: Bad Emotions vs Evil Emotions vs Virtues
Psychology of Emotions:
Emotions define the psychological divide between races:
Bad Emotions (Universal to All Creations, Including Templars)
These are instinctive psychological mechanisms present across all races to navigate threat, survival, and intimacy.
1. Rage (Short-Lived)
Psychological Definition: Short-lived, acute flare-ups of intense anger.
Significance: Unlike long-term malice, short-lived rage is a universal reaction to immediate stress or combat that even Templars experience without compromising their spiritual purity.
2. Jealousy
Psychological Definition: A natural response to a direct threat against a relationship you actually possess.
Significance: Serves as a protective instinct over existing personal bonds across all species, distinguishing it from Envy, which targets what others own.
3. Defensiveness
Psychological Definition: The natural shield you raise to protect your worth when you feel attacked.
Significance: An instinctive emotional armor activated under threat or criticism to preserve self-dignity across both mortal and immortal races.
4. Fear of Scarcity
Psychological Definition: The panic felt when believing there isn't enough to survive.
Significance: A universal survival impulse driving resource preservation without descending into the predatory hoarding of Greed.
5. Infatuation
Psychological Definition: The overwhelming ache to be close to someone to whom you are intensely drawn.
Significance: The natural emotional and personal pull experienced in genuine attraction, standing in stark contrast to predatory Lust.
6. Ravenous Hunger
Psychological Definition: The frantic panic felt when completely empty, requiring immediate food or comfort to survive.
Significance: An emergency physiological and emotional response to extreme deprivation shared by all living entities.
7. Self-Numbing
Psychological Definition: The emergency firewall your mind builds to shut out pain when life gets too chaotic to handle.
Significance: A temporary psychological coping mechanism used across all races during acute trauma to prevent mental collapse.
8. Dislike
Psychological Definition: A natural, healthy preference or instinctive aversion toward certain traits, behaviors, or energies that do not align with one's personal values, comfort, or safety—experienced entirely without the desire to harm, demean, or destroy the other entity.
Significance: Present in all species (including the Templars), functions as a crucial psychological boundary and selective filter. It allows even a Templar to experience personal friction, cultural distaste, or interpersonal incompatibility—such as disliking the chaotic noise of a surface trading hub or the abrasive posture of a foreign envoy—without descending into long-term malice. Because Templars are biologically devoid of Evil Emotions such as Envy or Wrath, their dislikes remain clean, passive boundaries that never twist into systemic oppression, predatory hatred, or corruption of their 7 Heavenly Virtues.
Evil Emotions / The 7 Deadly Sins (Exclusive to Domcreans)
These are corruptive, predatory obsessions unique to the Domcrean lineage. Templars are biologically completely devoidof these emotions.
1. Wrath (Long-Term)
Psychological Definition: Sustained, long-term hatred and destructive malice.
Significance: Sustains deep-seated vendettas and systemic rivalries among Domcrean factions over generations.
2. Envy
Psychological Definition: Sorrow, sadness, or resentment at another person's good fortune, coupled with an insatiable desire to see them lose it.
Significance: Fuels the deep resentment of Domcrean surface nations toward Underhaven and the Templars, serving as the emotional engine for rebellions.
3. Pride
Psychological Definition: The delusion that you are a god who is completely above attack.
Significance: Breeds god-complexes and arrogance in Domcrean rulers and warmongers; Templars cannot experience this delusion due to their biological purity.
4. Greed
Psychological Definition: The obsession with taking everything, even when you already have more than enough.
Significance: Drives economic exploitation, resource monopolies, and predatory expansion across surface empires.
5. Lust
Psychological Definition: The predatory obsession with using someone's body for your own pleasure without caring about who they are.
Significance: Leads to objectification and predatory relationships among Domcreans, whereas Templars remain untainted.
6. Gluttony
Psychological Definition: The selfish obsession with consuming and wasting everything around you, even when you are already completely full.
Significance: Promotes wasteful over-consumption and environmental depletion in Domcrean territories.
7. Sloth
Psychological Definition: The selfish choice to keep the self-numbing firewall up forever so you never have to work, care, or try again.
Significance: Causes permanent moral apathy and resignation in Domcreans, whereas Templars remain naturally active and diligent.
The 7 Heavenly Virtues (Present Significantly on Templars and Present on some Domcreans as well): Templars inherently possess some of these, which is why Domcreans refer to their power as "holy magic".
1. Humility
Psychological Definition: The innate, unshakeable recognition of one's exact place within the cosmic design, remaining completely free from the delusion of self-godhood or unearned superiority.
Significance: Serves as the spiritual foundation that prevents Templars from viewing their 2,500-year lifespans or immense martial strength as a license to tyrant over mortal races. It grounds their authority purely in stewardship and service to the Makers.
2. Charity
Psychological Definition: The unreserved, joyful devotion of one's resources, protection, and vital energy to sustain the lives and well-being of others without expecting gain or return.
Significance: Drives the Templars' endless protection of the 700 million Asylum lesser races in Underhaven. It is the emotional catalyst behind their willingness to deploy tether-tokens and shelter refugees from surface wars.
3. Chastity
Psychological Definition: The pure, disciplined alignment of mind, spirit, and body toward sacred purpose, maintaining absolute respect for the dignity and autonomy of all living beings.
Significance: Ensures the Templars' spiritual meridians remain uncorrupted by predatory fixation, maintaining clean energy channels required for high-tier Light and Dark energy manipulation.
4. Gratitude
Psychological Definition: The deep, unclouded contentment in the blessings and power bestowed by creation, celebrating the good fortune and flourishing of others without a shred of bitterness.
Significance: Completely immunizes the Templar race against envy or resentment toward the surface empires of Luminos and Unlighted, preserving internal unity across Underhaven's Major Clans and Minor Tribes.
5. Temperance
Psychological Definition: The absolute, self-governed equilibrium of restraint and balance across all physical, mental, and magical consumption.
Significance: Prevents the reckless over-consumption or hoarding of elemental reservoirs during combat or daily life, ensuring Templars never waste ambient Ley-line energy or suffer from spiritual corruption.
6. Patience
Psychological Definition: The steadfast, serene endurance of spirit that remains calm and composed through centuries of trial, provocation, and waiting.
Significance: Allows Templars to endure millennia of vigilant guard duty along Underhaven's Convergence Rim without letting temporary grievances twist into long-term wrath or hostility.
7. Diligence
Psychological Definition: The tireless, noble dedication to continuous spiritual cultivation, martial refinement, and relentless fulfillment of one's sacred vows.
Significance: Powers the centuries of rigorous training undertaken at the Academy of Pargons, ensuring every Templar constantly refines their martial arts, card-matrix cultivation, and clan-specific gifts.
