I sat under the embrace of the sheets for a long time, swallowed by their softness and the illusion of calmness. Miri had taken the leather chair close to the window, regaling me with all sorts of tales, perhaps in a bid to entertain me.
I mean, I appreciated the effort, but I really did not need it. I was too caught up in my own head.
Before Kaeren left the room earlier, I had blurted that I had something I needed to tell him. But now that I contemplated it deeply, I wondered if telling him like this was a good idea. Would he fault me for keeping the truth hidden? Would he grow disgusted at the fact that I had been pawning his family's expensive jewelry for some cash?
"He's our mate, Waverly. He's going to understand." Pia cooed within me, her voice full of hope. "You saw the way he held us. He loves us. Things won't change just because of this minor change in detail…"
I almost scoffed, promptly stopping myself due to the presence of Miri.
