The moonlight spilled across the floorboards of Draven's quarters.
He sat in the dark behind his heavy oak desk. He was not reviewing logistical maps. He was not cleaning his weapons. He was simply staring at the heavy wooden door, waiting for the inevitable consequences of his own architecture.
He had forgotten that weird feeling as something trivial and tried to focus on the important matter at hand.
CLICK.
The brass handle turned. The door pushed open.
Estella walked into his room. She did not ask for permission. She did not knock. It was a ghost of the closeness they used to share before the heavy silence had fallen between them.
She stepped inside and pushed the door shut behind her.
THUD.
The lock engaged. The silence in the room was suffocating.
Draven did not look surprised. He did not reach for a pen to pretend he was busy. He sat perfectly still and met her gaze.
