The air inside the ruined processing plant felt unspeakably heavy.
Draven stepped firmly onto the cracked concrete. Five young warriors formed a loose, deadly perimeter around the man in the oversized wool coat. The rusted hunting knife hung loosely from the engineer's fingers, completely devoid of any immediate killing intent.
The clone of Malakor did not attack. He did not drop into a defensive stance to repel the sudden numerical disadvantage. He simply tilted his head. He looked at Draven with dull, vacant brown eyes. It was the slow, meticulous look of a man finding a missing puzzle piece that finally fit into a space he had never expected to fill.
Draven narrowed his gray eyes behind his featureless white mask.
Something was fundamentally wrong with the environment. Draven flexed his gloved fingers. His heartbeat felt strangely muffled in his own ears. The crisp, hyper-aware edge he constantly maintained felt blurred.
