Chapter 280: Trapped With Us
The Captain walked the perimeter of the new world he had just created.
The towering walls of petrified World-wood pulsed with a faint, steady green light. The dense, overlapping bark was completely impenetrable.
It had absorbed the heavy artillery fire from the Capital siege engines without leaving a single splinter or scorch mark. General Marek was entirely locked out.
But the Captain did not just check the primary gates. He descended into the rotting depths of the textile mill basement.
He stood before the drainage pipe where Varn had slipped out into the freezing current, and where the silent intruder had slipped in. The heavy iron grate was gone.
It had been completely swallowed by thick, pale roots that wove together into an airtight seal. The dark runoff water still filtered slowly through microscopic pores in the wood, but nothing solid could ever pass through it again.
