Chapter 277: A Familiar Face
The dust from the shattered cobblestones settled slowly over the primary intersection.
Lord Commander Vell stood alone in the center of the massive crater his own magic had created. The retreating Capital infantry was a distant, chaotic blur of gray armor fading into the morning fog. The deafening roar of the battle had been replaced by the quiet, ragged sound of his own breathing.
Vell leaned heavily against a jagged pillar of bedrock. His plain steel armor felt like a prison of lead. His lungs burned with every intake of the freezing air. The golden, overwhelming energy of his Valor class was gone, burned down to the very last spark to break General Marek's formation.
CRUNCH.
A boot stepped softly onto the broken stones behind him.
Vell did not have the energy to turn around. He assumed it was one of his own guards returning from the chase, coming to deliver a casualty report.
