Chapter 82 - Sit rep

"Let us hope that the mistakes he make aren't kicking off the second battle before our preparations are complete." he said and I nodded.

"Now then what's Boone up to? Wrangling the other clans that run the strip? Maybe going to give the NCR a "helping" hand?" I asked curiously.

"Something of the latter. At the moment he is killing the leaders of the fiends in order to keep them from interfering with the events of the battle. This additionally will also give your group a more pronounced standing with the NCR. A necessary thing if you are to be allowed on the dam during the battle." he said seriously.

"Hmmm, I'm a little fuzzy on the leaders of the fiends but I believe that's Violet, Cook Cook, Driver Nelphi and the guy in that vault, can't think of his name." I said with a slight tilt of my head.

"Irrelevant, he is not included in the list of targets. Though I must admit your knowledge of the fiends leadership surprises me. I did not take you as the sort to bother yourself with such details." House said sounding almost impressed.

"I'm not usually. That just so happens to fall under the umbrella of things I know is all. Ignoring that for now, what's next?" I asked getting us back on topic.

"Are you by chance familiar with the occupants of Nellis airforce base?" he asked.

"The Boomers? Want me to go have a talk with them? Get them on our side?" I asked casually.

"Yes. They are, shall we say, aggressively reclusive? They have several howitzers they fire at anyone who dares approach the base. Artillery of this sort has a range of several miles. If it's going to fire on Hoover dam, I want it firing at my targets." he said in agreement.

"Easy enough to do. Damn good thing i'm wearing a suit of armor that's artillery proof too. Bet I can pressure them by walking through their shelling." I say casually.

"You might be artillery proof but i'm not!" Jess hissed.

"You'll be doing something else." I say to her before turning to the monitor again "You mind if she handles the Gomorrah situation while I take care of Nellis? If she's fast she might be able to get the Ultra lux too. But that's a whole thing with them secretly going back to cannibalism and stuff." I said with a shake of my head.

"Wait, what? Cannibalism?" Jess asked confused.

"Oh yeah. The group that this guy put in charge of the Ultra lux that goes by the White masks were originally cannibals. They were supposed to cut that practice out of their lives since they run the casino but some of them just can't quite let it go. Old habits and dying hard I guess." I explain casually.

"I assumed as much from some of the suspicious rumors I've been intercepting about the place. No matter. I see no problem with accelerating the preparations by allowing Miss Jess to handle the internal affairs of the casinos while you deal with the Boomers." House said clearly not surprised by the information I dropped casually.

"See how much more efficient this is compared to putting it all on a single person like would have before? We are ahead of schedule!" I said with my arms open dramatically.

"My original plan would have preserved the mystique that I have built around myself on the strip." he pointed out.

"It hasn't been lost, just transformed. Now there's a group operating on your direct orders, as far as anyone knows at least. If anything it makes your mysteriousness even more intense as anyone with eyes could see we are a group that mean BUSINESS. I'm probably the single most hated person breathing in New Vegas by the legion. Jess is someone who gets shit done no matter how dangerous or insane it looked. Boone is angst in human form and admittedly Veronica is likely to be leaving our group permanently soon. Maintaining neutrality becomes difficult when you do what will be done to her "family"." I say laying out how awesome we are.

"What are we doing to her family?" Jess asked confused.

"Oh right you weren't there for that conversation. The Brotherhood has to go, one way or another. I already told Veronica which is why she vanished. She's no doubt trying to convince her people to abandon this area and flee elsewhere. If she fails they will be killed." I explained honestly.

"Why do we need to murder the brotherhood exactly?" Jess asked in horror and confusion.

"My long term plans involve the usage of advanced technologies that they will not accept being used. In order to prevent their interference at that time wiping them from the board is necessary." House answered calmly.

"I don't want to." she said firmly.

"I know you don't. That's why you won't, I will. By warning them as I have they are presented an opportunity for salvation. Should they not take it the death that follows will be one they chose for themselves. It's not a righteous act but one that needs doing all the same." I say frankly.

"How can you sound so calm about this!?" she demanded in horror.

"I've known about it for quite some time. It helps that it's not personal, just business." I reply without any change in tone or posture.

"It's still wrong though!" she hissed.

"It is morally wrong. No one will deny that. Not I, not him, no one. But what is morally right and what is necessary are not always the same thing. You can sit at ease. You will have no part in the matter. You won't even know it's happened yet until it's already over." I say sincerely.
