Candace
Two days had passed since Evan's execution, and I had barely left my room. Bree brought my meals, but most of the time I only pushed the food around my plate until she returned to collect the trays.
I had shut everyone else out because I didn't need visitors, and I didn't want to pretend I was fine.
I had only just dragged myself out of bed by evening, my eyes swollen and red and my hair tangled above my head like a bird's nest, when a soft knock sounded at the door.
I glanced toward it tiredly, expecting Bree to walk in. She had taken Cookie out for a walk because I had been too distraught to do it myself, and the poor thing had grown restless over the past two days.
"Luna?"
My brows furrowed. That wasn't Bree's voice.
I was prepared to ignore whoever it was when the person spoke again.
"Lady Ashley requests your presence in the Dowager Suite."
I stared at the closed door for a long moment before answering.
"I'll be there shortly. Thank you."
