**Chapter 655: The Bothan Bargain**
**Scene 1**
**Kothlis Surface – Bothan Government Office**
**Dagon POV**
The shuttle touched down smoothly on the polished landing platform outside the Bothan government complex. Kothlis was a vibrant world, its cities a blend of sleek modern architecture and natural greenery that spoke of Bothan efficiency and adaptability. I stepped out alongside Admiral Grace O'Connor, both of us in formal Republic uniforms. The Bothan delegation waited to greet us, their furred faces showing a mixture of relief, curiosity, and cautious respect.
We were led into a spacious, sunlit office with wide windows overlooking the bustling Bothan capital. Desark Fey'lya, the Bothans' First Secretary, rose from behind a large, elegantly carved desk to greet us warmly.
"Grand Master Marek, Admiral O'Connor," Fey'lya said, bowing slightly with genuine gratitude. "On behalf of the Bothan people and the entire colony, I thank the Jedi and the Republic for saving Kothlis from the Separatists. Without your timely intervention, our world would have fallen. Many lives were spared today because of your courage."
I nodded respectfully. "We were glad to help. The Separatists will not find Kothlis an easy target again. Your people fought bravely alongside our forces."
Fey'lya smiled, his fur rippling with emotion. "As a gesture of gratitude and goodwill, we wish to offer our Spynet services to the Republic. Our intelligence network is among the finest in the galaxy. We believe it will be of great value in the ongoing war against the Separatists."
*To be honest, I didn't really need it,* I thought. *My intelligence comes from spying on the Chancellor and various pirate networks. But the Republic needs it.* I also noted something else important — the Bothans didn't have a dedicated fleet. What they did have was numerous highly trained fleet personnel and a large number of various shuttles and light frigates. *Opportunity.*
Grace stood beside me, her posture professional, but I could feel her quiet pride through our bond.
**Scene 2**
After the formal thanks and initial pleasantries, I decided to push the conversation in a new direction.
"How would you feel about having your own defense fleet?" I asked calmly, meeting Fey'lya's eyes directly.
The Bothan officials in the room laughed lightly at first, though there was a hint of genuine surprise in their expressions.
"You truly are an interesting Jedi," Fey'lya said, leaning forward with a thoughtful tilt of his head. "But unfortunately, our people lack the materials and the industrial skill to build and maintain such ships on our own. We have always relied on trade and diplomacy rather than large-scale military production."
I smiled faintly. "How about I provide you with weapons, materials, shipyards, and help you build and crew your own fleets?"
The room fell into a brief, stunned silence. Fey'lya studied me carefully, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly. "Where would those shipyards be?"
"Bothawui, of course," I replied without hesitation. "It's your home planet. It needs its own defense."
The Bothan official's expression turned stern, his voice becoming more cautious. "What do you want in return? This goes above the standard Republic agreement."
"Relax," I said, keeping my tone calm and reassuring. "Just in a few battles, I get to borrow some of your ships for the war. Then we will see how things develop."
Fey'lya considered this for a long moment, exchanging glances with his advisors. Finally, he extended his hand across the desk. "Deal."
"Deal," I replied, shaking it firmly.
The Bothans looked both excited and cautious. A new alliance was forming — one that would strengthen the Republic's position in the Mid Rim while giving me access to one of the galaxy's best intelligence networks and a potential new fleet of agile, well-trained ships.
As we left the office, Grace leaned closer and whispered with a small smile, "You just secured Bothan support and a future fleet in one conversation. You really are something else, General."
I smiled back. "Just trying to keep the galaxy from falling apart."
**Scene 3**
**Olympus Mons – Bridge, Orbiting Kothlis**
**Dagon POV**
Back aboard the *Olympus Mons*, I stood on the bridge reviewing the latest fleet status. The victory at Kothlis had been decisive, but the war was far from over. The Bothan agreement would provide valuable intelligence and future naval support, but I still had to manage the larger picture.
Grace stood beside me, her presence a comforting warmth through our new bond. "The Bothans seem genuinely grateful," she said softly. "And a little intimidated by you."
I chuckled. "Good. A healthy respect never hurts."
The tactical display showed the Republic fleet holding position around Kothlis, the newly secured world now flying both Republic and Bothan banners. Reinforcements were already en route to solidify our hold on the sector.
The war continued its relentless march, but for the first time in weeks, I felt like we were finally starting to regain control of the narrative.
