Chapter 206 - Chapter 206: The Iron Crucible

On the edge of the Shura Training Archipelago, the White-White Sea churned with gentle, rippling waves.

Shachi and Penguin lay completely paralyzed on the cloud beach. They were soaking wet, their chests heaving violently like two fish dragged onto dry land. A few paces away, Bepo was sprawled flat on his stomach, his matted white fur clinging to his body and his round ears drooping lifelessly into the clouds.

Shark stood near the water's edge. The massive Samehada symbiote rested silently against his spine, completely still.

He glanced back at the three groaning pirates. "Have you rested enough?"

Shachi's lips twitched. "You call this resting?"

Penguin wiped a stream of seawater from his eyes. "We simply managed not to drown."

Bepo weakly raised a trembling paw. "Sorry. I think I can hold on a little longer."

Shachi and Penguin snapped their heads toward the mink. "Stop acting tough!"

Shark ignored their complaints. He calmly raised a hand and pressed his palm flat against the churning sea surface.

Boom.

The White-White Sea erupted. A massive, violently spinning torrent of water tore upward from the surface, hurtling through the air like a colossal white python before slamming directly into a distant cloud-rock target.

A deafening roar ripped through the air as the target shattered into mist and debris.

Shachi and Penguin fell completely silent. They knew how to spit water bullets. But compared to the devastating hydraulic cannon Shark just unleashed, their attacks looked like toddlers spitting in a puddle.

Shark slowly withdrew his hand. "Fish-Man Karate is not an art you can master in a day or two. I do not have the time to build your foundations from scratch. However, you are strong swimmers. You excel at underwater stealth, holding your breath, and basic projectile attacks."

He looked down at the two humans. "If you train your aquatic mobility to its absolute limit, you will at least be capable of more than just fleeing for your lives when dragged underwater."

Shachi let out a long breath. The truth stung, but he could not argue with it.

Penguin did not waste another word. He pushed himself up from the ground, turned around, and waded silently back into the White-White Sea.

Shachi watched his crewmate's retreating back and cursed under his breath. "Could you not hesitate for just one second?"

Penguin did not even turn his head. "If we slack off now, the Captain will be the only one capable of holding the line in the New World."

Shachi clamped his mouth shut. He pushed himself up and trudged back into the freezing water.

Bepo braced his paws against the clouds, vigorously shaking the water from his thick fur. "Sorry! I will keep going too."

Shark gave a slight nod. "Do not worry about shouting attack names. Focus on conditioning your biology so you do not panic under absolute water pressure. The same applies to water bullets. Accuracy and density will always trump a loud voice."

Before Shachi could ask another question, Shark turned his back and walked toward a different cluster of cloud rocks.

The directive was clear. Practice on your own. He would observe and correct their fatal flaws. If they could still move, they were expected to keep training. If they collapsed, they were to eat, seek medical treatment, and return the next morning.

There was no formal apprenticeship here. There was no gentle guidance. Shachi and Penguin recognized their fatal weaknesses and actively sought out the Fish-Man for instruction. Shark determined they possessed enough drive to be worth his time.

This was the standard operating procedure aboard the Eclipse. No one chased after the crew demanding they grow stronger. No one flaunted their superiority. You sought out your own mentors, pushed your own limits, and survived the consequences.

On a neighboring deserted island.

Boom.

Law launched backward like a cannonball, his boots carving a deep, jagged trench through the solid rock. He slammed Kikoku into the bedrock, using the cursed blade as an anchor to forcefully arrest his momentum.

His right arm trembled violently. The thin coating of Armament Haki wrapping his forearm had nearly shattered upon impact with Urouge's heavy strike.

Urouge hoisted the massive steel pillar onto his shoulder, a serene smile resting on his face. "You endured two more exchanges than yesterday."

Law wiped a smear of blood from his chin. "Empty comfort is meaningless."

"This monk offers no comfort," Urouge replied, pressing his massive palms together. "I am merely recording your progress."

Law narrowed his eyes. The pale blue surgical sphere snapped open around him.

In the span of a single heartbeat, his figure swapped places with a chunk of falling rubble. He materialized directly above Urouge's blind spot. Kikoku descended in a vicious arc, coated in a layer of Armament Haki that, while not incredibly dense, was vastly more stable than the week prior.

Clang.

Urouge raised his armored forearm to intercept the blade. The collision of Haki triggered a violent shockwave, cracking the ground beneath them.

Law used the kinetic recoil to flip backward. But the moment the soles of his boots touched the earth, a massive shadow eclipsed the sun. Urouge was already standing directly in front of him.

"Too slow."

Bang.

Law was sent flying once again. This time, he forced his body to twist mid-air. He activated a rapid Shambles, swapping his trajectory with a loose boulder. He hit the ground awkwardly, tumbling across the dirt, but managed to keep his footing.

Urouge's eyes lit up with genuine approval. "Very good."

Law dropped to one knee, his chest heaving as he fought for oxygen. He did not immediately rise. Instead, he stared down at his trembling, bruised hands.

The Ope-Ope no Mi was undeniably powerful. In the eyes of weaklings, his abilities made him look like an untouchable monster. But against the true apex predators of the New World, any fractional weakness in physical baseline, Haki reserves, or cardiovascular stamina was infinitely magnified.

That was exactly why he sought out the Mad Monk.

Urouge never explicitly offered to teach him. He simply agreed to fight Law at the same time every day.

Law noted every failure. His ROOM expanded a fraction of a second too slowly. His Armament Haki fractured under overwhelming kinetic force. He was battered until his vision blurred and his bones screamed.

Then came the treatment. The massive caloric intake. The recovery. And immediately back to the battlefield.

This was the terrifying ecosystem of the Eclipse. Every combatant on the ship subjected themselves to a localized hell. They could do so purely because the vessel housed completely unreasonable recovery mechanics.

Ace possessed the Vermilion Bird's celestial fire, which instantly purged micro-tears and fused broken muscle fibers. Bartholomew Kuma could literally repel accumulated physical fatigue out of their nervous systems. Brook's soul music smoothed over the mental trauma of repeated defeats.

The physical injuries vanished, and the exhaustion was erased. But the gains remained. The muscle memory, the phantom pain, and the exponential Haki growth triggered by standing on the brink of death permanently anchored themselves into their bodies.

Because their bodies refused to break, they could train until their minds shattered.

Urouge adjusted his grip on the steel pillar. "Again?"

Law forced himself upright, his knuckles turning white around Kikoku's hilt. "Continue."

Urouge offered a wide, terrifying grin. "This monk is happy to oblige."

Dusk settled over the archipelago.

At the edge of the White-White Sea, Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo lay completely paralyzed across the clouds. The water around them sloshed quietly. In the distance, the completely pulverized remains of the cloud-rock targets drifted in the breeze, serving as proof of their brutal underwater conditioning.

Law leaned against a smooth boulder, his eyes closed as he carefully regulated his breathing.

A short distance away, the logistical personnel rolled a heavy steel dining cart onto the shore. It was piled high with dense, high-calorie meats and lined with a row of Chopper's standardized recovery serums.

Law opened his eyes, retrieved a vial of the blue liquid, and downed it in one gulp. The taste was surprisingly tolerable.

A moment later, Shachi's exhausted voice echoed directly inside his skull.

Captain, are you still alive?

Law kept his eyes closed. I am not dead.

We were completely crushed by Shark today, Penguin chimed in over the mental link.

It was not just a physical beating, Shachi corrected. It was the absolute eradication of our self-esteem.

Sorry, but I thought Shark looked incredibly cool, Bepo whispered.

Bepo, whose side are you actually on? Shachi snapped.

Sorry! I belong to the Heart Pirates!

Law listened to the chaotic overlapping thoughts in his mind, making no effort to silence them. This seamless mental communication was something they had all been forced to adapt to.

Three months ago, when the project was first initiated, the Heart Pirates had nearly started a riot.

On the exact day Law agreed to ally with the Eclipse Pirates, Carina had strolled into their camp with a sly smile.

"Since we will be operating together, I need to patch you into the primary communication network."

Shachi assumed she was going to hand out specialized Den Den Mushi transponders. Penguin even looked around the camp for a radio setup. Instead, Carina simply walked forward and gently tapped each of them on the shoulder.

"Is that it?" Shachi asked, confused.

Carina approached Law last. He did not step back, but his eyes locked onto her with freezing intensity. She pressed her fingertips lightly against his collarbone.

A second later, her voice bypassed his ears entirely and rang directly in the center of his brain.

Testing. Can you hear me?

Bepo yelped, grabbing his head and stumbling backward. "Sorry! Someone is trapped inside my head!"

Shachi and Penguin froze stiff, their eyes wide with panic.

Law's thumb instantly flicked Kikoku's guard, exposing an inch of cursed steel. "What exactly is this ability?"

Carina lowered her hand, smiling like a fox who had cornered a hen. "The Communication-Communication Fruit. Simply put, you are all officially registered as nodes on the Eclipse network."

Penguin stared at her. "A single touch is all it takes?"

"Physical contact initiates frequency extraction, allowing me to establish a permanent resonance bond," Carina explained, waving a finger. "From this point forward, you can communicate telepathically across vast distances without relying on a Den Den Mushi."

Shachi remained silent for a few heavy seconds. "If the Marines learn about the strategic value of this power..."

"Will her bounty jump again?" Penguin finished.

Carina nodded as if discussing the weather. "Exactly. So keep your mouths shut."

Sorry, but I do not think she is just a normal intelligence officer, Bepo projected quietly into the network.

Carina walked over and patted the bear's arm. "This one is quite chatty, isn't he?"

Law did not relax his posture. "Can you forcibly intervene in our link at any time?"

Carina met his cold stare without flinching. "I am the central control tower. Access control, emergency broadcasting, GPS location services, and visual field sharing all fall strictly under my jurisdiction." She paused, offering a lazy sigh. "But do not flatter yourselves. I am too busy monitoring the global black market and keeping these lunatics from blowing up their own ship to listen to your daily gossip. You are not nearly mysterious enough to warrant constant surveillance."

Shachi let out a highly visible sigh of relief.

"Of course," Carina added, her tone sharpening. "If a genuine crisis occurs, I will forcefully intervene. If you are beaten to the brink of death, or if Law decides to charge into a suicide mission without asking for backup."

Law glared at her.

Carina smiled brightly. "Do not look at me like that. I set this up so we can drag your bodies out of the ocean before you drown."

Law held the stare for another moment before finally letting Kikoku drop back into its sheath. He despised the feeling of being wired into someone else's system. Yet, as a tactician, he recognized the terrifying value of her power.

No easily intercepted Den Den Mushi signals. Absolute radio silence. Real-time GPS tracking. Instantaneous battlefield synchronization. In a full-scale war, Carina functioning as the central nervous system of an entire fleet was an apocalyptic advantage.

Shachi hesitated before finally projecting a single thought to his crew.

Every single person on this ship is an absolute monster.

Carina smirked. "Welcome to the Eclipse."

Three months later, the Heart Pirates barely registered the telepathic voices anymore. They used the network to banter during hellish conditioning, call for emergency medical evacuation, and confirm positions during stealth drills. Even Bepo's reflex to apologize whenever Carina addressed him directly had become a daily routine.

Shachi's voice surfaced again in the present.

Captain, are we undergoing water combat drills again tomorrow?

I am not worried about the injuries, Penguin added. After a blast of celestial fire and one of Chopper's serums, I will be completely healed by sunrise.

That is exactly the problem, Shachi groaned. I want an excuse not to jump back into the meat grinder tomorrow.

Sorry, I finally understand how they manage to train like they want to die every single day, Bepo whimpered.

Shachi looked out toward the distant edges of the archipelago. The sounds of explosive lightning strikes, shattering bedrock, roaring beasts, and crashing shockwaves echoed endlessly through the dusk.

Because their bodies reset perfectly, there is no limit to the punishment they can endure.

Penguin fell silent. The most terrifying aspect of the Eclipse was not its destructive output, but its horrifying capacity for recovery.

Law opened his eyes. He reviewed his own schedule. High-stress physical conditioning. Urouge's combat sparring. Micro-cellular ROOM manipulation. Assisting Chopper in the medical bay.

He paused for two seconds before transmitting a single command into the private Heart channel.

The schedule remains the same.

A heavy, collective silence hung in the telepathic link.

Shachi let out a long, vocal sigh. Understood.

Understood, Penguin echoed.

Bepo gave a firm nod to the empty sky. Sorry! I will do my absolute best!
