Chapter 55 - Ch 55: The Missing Piece

Mira's eyes remained fixed on the little boy. Her fingertips unconsciously brushed across the screen.

She didn't know why. But her heart ached.

As though it had found something infinitely precious...

...that her memories had left behind.

Her vision blurred.

She slowly looked at Leon, tears gathering in her eyes.

"I..."

Her lips trembled.

"Our..."

The words refused to leave her mouth.

Leon gently held her face and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. Then, lowering himself before her, he took both her hands into his.

"Mira..."

"I'm sorry."

"The doctors asked me to tell you everything little by little."

"You couldn't even remember our marriage."

"If I had suddenly told you that we have a son..."

He lowered his gaze.

"I was afraid."

"Afraid of hurting you."

"And..." His voice softened.

"I didn't want you to accept Mumu simply because he's your responsibility."

He looked into her tear-filled eyes.

"I wanted you to know him because you love him."

A tear rolled down Mira's cheek. She slowly slid off the sofa until she was kneeling in front of him.

Grabbing the front of his shirt, she clenched it tightly.

"You..."

Her voice broke.

"How could you carry all of this alone?"

Before Leon could answer, she buried her face against his chest and cried. He wrapped his arms around her without saying a word.

He had imagined countless reactions. But none of them mattered. Because at that moment, all he felt was relief.

She wasn't rejecting their son.

She was mourning the memories she had lost.

After a long while, Mira finally calmed down. She wiped her tears with the back of her hand and looked up at him.

"Where is he?"

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"I want to meet him."

"Leo..."

"I want to see Mumu."

A gentle smile appeared on Leon's face.

"He's staying with my parents at the ancestral house."

"He has been waiting for us."

Before Leon could say another word, Mira stood up and grabbed his hand.

"Let's go."

"Mira, at least change your clothes—"

"No."

"I don't want to waste another second."

She pulled him toward the front door with hurried steps. Leon could only smile as he followed behind.

The drive to the ancestral house felt longer than ever. Halfway there, Mira quietly leaned against Leon's shoulder. He could feel the excitement and nervousness from her.

In that moment, he knew. He had made the right decision.

After a few minutes of silence, Mira spoke again.

"Leo..."

"Hmm?"

"Will Mumu know me?"

Leon intertwined his fingers with hers.

"Yes."

"Will he come to me?"

"He will."

She hesitated.

"And..."

"Will he be angry that I forgot him?"

Leon turned toward her and gently wiped away the tear gathering at the corner of her eye.

"He has waited every day for his mother."

"He doesn't know what resentment is."

"When he sees you..."

"...he'll only know that you're finally home."

Mira closed her eyes.

Her grip on Leon's hand tightened.

For the rest of the journey, she asked endless questions about Mumu—

what he liked to eat,

whether he had started talking,

what made him laugh,

whether he still needed to be carried to sleep.

And Leon answered every single one with quiet patience.

Listening to her ask about their son, he felt something inside him finally settle.

For the first time in months...

his family was on its way back to becoming whole.
