The city was only beginning to wake when Peter Sterling's black sedan rolled through the gates of Sterling Group.
The rising sun painted the glass tower in soft shades of gold, replacing the cold steel appearance it usually carried. Employees were arriving one after another, coffees in hand, exchanging sleepy greetings before another demanding workday.
Peter stepped out first.
Instead of walking toward the entrance immediately, he remained beside the car.
The driver looked surprised.
Peter rarely waited for anyone.
A moment later, the opposite door opened.
Caro stepped onto the pavement, smoothing the sleeve of her cream-colored blazer before looking up. She froze when she realized Peter hadn't gone inside.
"Were you waiting for me?" she asked softly.
Peter slipped one hand into his pocket.
"You have today's strategy file."
She blinked before lifting the leather portfolio she was carrying.
"Oh... right."
A tiny smile touched his lips.
