Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 - Belonging

Kyle now sat on the chair he had created earlier, facing the two suspects of today's mischief.

"So, care to explain to me what you two were doing and how exactly this thing broke?"

Kyle raised the broken crown in his hand.

"Dada..."

Meera looked at the crown, and her eyes immediately started to become watery.

"It's Fenn! He—"

"MEOW!"

Before Meera could finish, Fenn let out a loud cry.

Kyle looked at the giant cat.

"You are saying this is my fault?"

"Meow."

"Huh~ So now you're saying sorry after you broke my precious crown?"

"Meow, meow, meow."

Fenn continued making noises as if he were trying to explain himself.

Meera immediately turned toward him.

"Fenn did it!"

"Meow!"

"You did!"

"MEOW!"

"You did!"

"Meow!"

The two started arguing with each other.

Kyle could only sigh.

"Stop it. I'll see it myself what happened."

Kyle waved his hand.

A cloudy screen appeared before him.

Slowly, the clouds covering its surface began to disappear.

The scene that appeared was from earlier.

Meera was standing in the middle of the hall while Fenn slowly approached her.

"Meera."

Fenn tried to get her attention.

But Meera simply turned her head away.

She didn't want to talk to him.

Fenn moved closer.

Meera ignored him again.

Fenn tilted his head before trying to approach her from the other side.

Meera took a step back.

And accidentally stepped on his tail.

"MEOW!"

Fenn immediately jumped.

Meera looked down in surprise.

Before she could react, Fenn's paw went toward the crown on her head.

The crown flew off.

"Ah!"

Meera immediately started chasing him.

"Fenn!"

Fenn ran through the hall.

Meera followed him closely behind.

The two continued chasing each other around the mansion.

After some time, however, the chase slowly turned into play.

Meera stopped running.

Fenn stopped as well.

The two looked at each other for a moment before Meera sat down.

Fenn slowly approached her.

"...Sorry."

Meera lowered her head slightly.

Fenn looked at her.

Then he walked toward the crown lying on the floor.

He picked it up and slowly brought it back to her.

Meera's expression immediately brightened.

Fenn tried placing the crown back on her head.

But because of his size...

Crack.

The crown broke again.

Meera stared at the broken crown.

Fenn stared at it too.

There was a brief silence.

Then—

"Fenn!"

Meera immediately started chasing him again.

"MEOW!"

Fenn ran away.

The scene disappeared as the cloudy screen faded.

Kyle remained silent for a moment.

"...I see."

Kyle looked at the two of them.

When he had first met Meera, she had seemed like a lonely child who had simply been given no attention.

At that time, Kyle had been too busy trying to understand what was happening to him to properly spend time with her.

So he had wondered if he could create something for her to play with.

He had remembered the cat café he had once visited with Amelia.

The thought alone had made him smile.

He had tried creating something similar.

The only problem was...

He had completely messed up the size.

And when he had created it, Meera hadn't even wanted to play with it.

When Kyle asked her why, she had simply pouted.

"I want to play with Dada..."

She had then looked at the creature.

"...It can't run on its own."

Hearing that, Kyle's fatherly instincts had immediately kicked in.

And somehow...

He had made Fenn move.

What was supposed to be a simple toy had somehow become a living creature.

Kyle had then left the two together for a while, hoping they would become familiar with each other.

Looking at what had happened now...

Kyle wasn't sure if that had been a good idea.

"...Maybe that wasn't such a good idea."

Another loud—

"MEOW!"

—came from the hall.

Kyle sighed.

"Definitely not."

"Okay, you two, stop it. It was my fault for not making the thing sturdy enough."

Kyle simply held the crown on his palm and waved his other hand over it.

A faint glow passed over the broken crown.

Slowly, the cracks began to disappear, and the crown returned to its original form as if it had never been damaged.

"Now, here you go."

Kyle placed the crown back on Meera's head.

"Thank you, Dada."

She laughed before hugging him.

"Meow."

Fenn let out a regretful noise, as if asking for forgiveness.

Meera then stepped back and faced Fenn.

She stood completely still for a few moments, maintaining a serious expression that made Fenn slightly nervous.

Then, her expression suddenly brightened.

"I forgive you."

"Meow?"

Fenn stared at her for a moment.

Then—

"MEOW!!!"

He suddenly leaped toward Meera.

"Hey, stop that, please!"

Kyle looked at the lovely scene before him and couldn't help but smile.

He then turned around and made his way toward the study.

The study was just as grand as the rest of the mansion.

Tall bookshelves covered the walls, filled with countless books Kyle had created simply because he thought the room needed them.

Large windows allowed sunlight to enter the room, while a wide wooden desk stood near the centre.

Kyle walked toward the desk and sat down.

For a moment, he simply remained there.

Then he placed his hand above the desk.

A diary slowly appeared beneath his hand.

Kyle looked at it for a moment before opening it.

"It has been three days since I woke up here."

His thoughts were now filled with questions.

The first one was simple.

How was he going to return?

There were still important things waiting for him back in his own world.

But that wasn't the only question troubling him.

How had he been able to create living things?

Previously, whenever he wanted to create something through CreatorMundi, he needed to use the currency within the device.

But now...

He could simply think about something and create it.

The chair.

The butterfly.

The pond.

The floating island.

The mansion.

And now Fenn.

None of it had required the device.

Kyle rested his chin on his hand.

There was something else.

He couldn't shake the feeling that he had forgotten something.

Something important.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember what it was.

And strangely...

These powers didn't feel foreign to him.

They should have.

Yet somehow, they felt natural.

As if he had always known how to use them.

There were simply too many questions.

Kyle knew that, eventually, he would find the answers.

The question was...

When?

No one could say for sure.

Kyle slowly closed the diary.

For a moment, he remained silent.

Then a thought suddenly crossed his mind.

"I don't know why..."

He looked toward the window.

"...but I don't feel lonely here."

Kyle's expression became slightly confused.

"Why?"
