giving him a distinguished air, while his well-kept beard, flecked with the same gray, added a gentlemanly quality to his appearance. Liam's face was strong and defined, with sharp cheekbones and a square jaw that gave him a rugged look. His eyes, framed by crow's feet from years of smiling and squinting, were a deep brown, warm yet intense, capable of both sternness and kindness. His nose was straight, and his lips, though usually set in a neutral line, had a way of curling into a half-smile that hinted at the humor he often kept hidden beneath his stern exterior.

Dressed in a fitted t-shirt and gym shorts, Liam's chest and back still carried the strength of his past, though no longer as chiseled as they once were, and his legs remained powerful from years of lifting. It made Derek feel for the small boy who stood there, wide-eyed, clearly terrified, like he was caught in some unforgivable act. The boy's nervous energy was palpable—his shoulders tensed, fingers fidgeting at his sides. Derek could see the unease radiating off him, his gaze darting between Derek and Liam like he was waiting for the hammer to drop.

Derek rolled his eyes, unable to hold back a grin. "Cut the shit, Liam," he said, with just enough bite to make Liam break. The gym owner's face cracked into the grin he'd been stifling, and soon his laughter echoed through the gym.

Derek turned to Ethan, whose face still showed traces of doubt, like he wasn't sure if he'd dodged the trouble or if it was still coming. "Don't mind him, you're not in trouble, buddy," Derek said, his voice softening, trying to ease the tension Ethan was carrying. He patted his leg, signaling Ethan to come closer. "Come here, check this out."

Ethan's uncertainty lingered in his eyes as he looked back up to Liam, as if seeking permission. Liam, still chuckling, gave Ethan a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Go on, buddy, you can hang out with Derek," he said, his tone far gentler now. Then, as he turned to walk away, Liam stopped, a mock-serious expression on his face. "But no lifting. Not without signing a waiver!"

Derek gave a sarcastic salute, smirking. "Understood, chief."

Ethan finally relaxed, taking a cautious step forward, the tension in his frame loosening as Derek ruffled his hair. Whatever nerves Ethan had were slowly giving way to the warmth that always seemed to fill the space between them. It was a moment—one that made Derek realize just how much the kid had started to mean to him.

Derek crouched down to Ethan's level, a playful grin spreading across his face. "Alright, buddy, check this out," he said as he straightened back up, rolling up the sleeve of his t-shirt to reveal a massive, well-defined bicep. He flexed, and the muscle bulged, veins popping along the surface, the skin tight over the hard mass underneath. "This is what we call a pump," he explained, his tone light but proud. "After a good workout, your muscles fill with blood, and they swell up like this. Looks pretty cool, right?"

Ethan's eyes lit up as soon as Derek flexed his bicep, the excitement spilling out before he could stop himself. "Whoa!" he exclaimed, his voice full of awe. Without thinking, he reached out and touched Derek's arm, his small fingers pressing against the rock-hard muscle. For a moment, he just stared at it, as if trying to figure out how something that solid could be real.

Then, just as quickly, he pulled his hand back, his face flushing with sudden embarrassment. "Uh, is that okay?" he asked, nervously glancing up at Derek, clearly worried he might have crossed a line.

Derek chuckled, shaking his head. "Of course, it's okay, buddy. No worries," he said, his tone easy and reassuring. "I mean, if I'm showing off, might as well let you check it out, right?" He flexed again, this time with a wink, making sure Ethan knew it was all in good fun.

Derek finished up his grueling workout, pushing through another thirty minutes of arm exercises that left his muscles screaming in that familiar, satisfying way. Each rep felt heavier than the last, but he powered through, his biceps and triceps swelling with the intense pump he was chasing. Sweat dripped down his forehead, his arms burning as he pushed himself to his limit. By the time he was done, his arms felt like they were carved out of stone—exactly the way he liked it.

As he wiped down his equipment, he glanced over at Ethan, who was still hanging out nearby, watching with wide eyes. "Alright, buddy, time to head out," Derek said, grabbing his towel and slinging it over his shoulder. On their way out, Derek grabbed the waiver from the front desk, he waved it in front of Ethan with a grin. "Gotta get this to your mom to sign before you start lifting, buddy," he said, ruffling Ethan's hair. "No getting off easy—if you want to hang with me at the gym, we're doing this by the book."

Ethan chuckled, still buzzing from the workout and the whole experience of being in Derek's world. They headed out to the Jeep, the summer heat washing over them as Derek popped the top off, the sun beaming down as they buckled in.

The day was warm and bright, the perfect excuse for a pit stop. "How about some ice cream?" Derek asked as they made their way out of the parking lot. Ethan's face lit up, and within minutes they were pulling into a small, local ice cream shop. The air was thick with the smell of waffle cones and sweet cream, and they ordered quickly—chocolate for Ethan, vanilla with caramel swirl for Derek.

As they reached the counter, the cashier, a bubbly young woman with bright eyes, smiled warmly at them. "Your son is adorable," she said with a wink, handing over Ethan's cone.

Derek couldn't help but laugh, though he didn't correct her. He liked the way it sounded—strangely natural, though Ethan wasn't his son. And there was no missing the subtle flirtation in her tone. He smiled back, casually thanking her as they took their treats and headed outside.

They climbed into the Jeep, enjoying the warm summer sun spilling through the open top as they drove, the wind whipping through their hair. It was the perfect kind of lazy afternoon, cruising around the city with no destination in mind, just soaking in the warmth of the day. Derek leaned back in the driver's seat, his arm resting casually on the door, but his mind was far from relaxed.

As much as he enjoyed spending time with Ethan, a nagging thought kept creeping in—Ethan's mom. She didn't know him, and here he was, an adult man, driving around and hanging out with her seven-year-old son. What if she was upset? The last thing Derek wanted was for her to think he was some stranger with questionable intentions, lurking in the shadows of her child's life. He'd never intended to cross any lines, but he couldn't shake the feeling that their time together might raise red flags. Would she see him as a threat rather than the friendly figure he hoped to be? The thought left a knot in his stomach, casting a shadow over the otherwise bright afternoon.

Derek stole a glance at Ethan, and his heart softened. The boy was beaming, his hair flipping around in the wind, a wide grin spreading across his face as he took in the world zipping by. The sheer joy radiating from him was infectious, and for a moment, Derek forgot about his worries, letting himself simply enjoy the sight of Ethan so happy and carefree.

But that thought still nagged at the back of his mind—he needed to talk to Ethan's mom soon. Make sure she understood everything—that it wasn't anything weird, just a guy who happened to enjoy the kid's company. Would she be cool about it, or would she freak out that Ethan had been hanging around him this much?

For now, though, they rode in comfortable silence, the bond between them growing quietly stronger. Derek liked being around Ethan; he was just a good kid—curious, funny, and full of energy. The thought of the boy looking up to him, whether as a role model or something else, lingered in Derek's mind as the sun began to dip lower in the sky. He hoped Ethan's mom wouldn't see it any differently.

As they pulled up to Ethan's house, the cheerful atmosphere shifted slightly in Derek's mind. He parked the Jeep and turned to Ethan, who was still buzzing with excitement from their day. "Alright, buddy, here we are," he said, trying to keep his tone light.

Ethan jumped out of the Jeep and headed toward the front door. But Derek surprised him by following close behind. "Wait, you're coming with me?" Ethan asked, his eyes wide with surprise as he turned around to face Derek.

"Yeah, I figured I'd introduce myself to your mom," Derek replied, a bit more serious now. "It's only fair, right? She probably wants to know who's been hanging out with her son."

Ethan hesitated for a moment, glancing back at the door as if uncertain how his mom would react to Derek's presence. But then he shrugged it off and led the way up the path. Derek couldn't help but feel a mix of anxiety and anticipation. This was the moment he had been dreading and looking forward to all at once.

As they reached the front door, Ethan knocked lightly, still glancing up at Derek, who offered him an encouraging smile. "It'll be fine," he said softly, though he hoped he was right.

While they waited at the front door, a playful voice rang out from inside. "Someone forgot their key again!" his mom called, a hint of teasing in her tone. The sound of footsteps approached, and the door swung open to reveal Ethan's mom.

She paused for a moment, taking in the sight before her. There stood Ethan, beaming with excitement, and next to him was Derek—an imposing figure with broad shoulders and a muscular build, his t-shirt straining against his chest and arms.

Her eyes widened in surprise, clearly taken aback by the unexpected presence of such a large man at her doorstep. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice a mix of curiosity and caution, scanning Derek from head to toe. There was a protective instinct flickering in her expression, but also an undeniable intrigue.

Derek felt the weight of her gaze and the unspoken questions in the air, but he managed to keep his composure. "Hi, I'm Derek," he said, stepping forward slightly, his tone friendly yet respectful. "I'm a friend of Ethan's from the gym. I just wanted to introduce myself."

She studied him for a moment before asking, "What gym? Ethan's too young for a gym."

Derek nodded, understanding her wariness. "Oh, I didn't mean he goes to a gym. He was actually staring in the window of the gym where I lift, and I noticed him. We started talking, and he seemed really interested in working out, so I thought it would be great to encourage him and share some tips."

Ethan's mom regarded him with a careful expression, clearly still weighing her options. "So, you're just… trying to help him?" she asked, her tone still skeptical.

"Exactly," Derek said earnestly. "I really just want to help him stay active and build confidence. Nothing more than that, I promise."

After a moment of hesitation, she took a deep breath and looked at him. "Do you want to come in? I'm making some food, and it might be nice to talk more."

Ethan's face lit up, but his mother added, "Ethan, go play in your room for a bit."

As he shuffled away, Derek noticed the nervous look on the boy's face, as if he feared he was in trouble for something. It was a fleeting expression, quickly masked by excitement, but Derek couldn't help but feel a pang of concern. He hoped Ethan would feel safe and comfortable, but he also knew that the situation had its complications.

They spent about twenty minutes talking in the kitchen, with Ethan's mom, Katie, keeping a cautious eye on Derek. While she remained wary, a part of her silently thought he seemed like a nice man. He had an easygoing demeanor and a genuine smile, but her concern lingered, especially when it came to the idea of Ethan weightlifting at such a young age.

"I'm not so sure about this gym thing," she admitted, fidgeting with her hands. "Weightlifting for someone Ethan's age… it just feels a bit risky."

Derek leaned forward, his tone earnest. "I understand your concerns, but I really believe it can be beneficial. It'll help build his confidence and strength. I know how hard it can be for kids his size."

Her expression softened slightly as she considered his words. "Yeah, he does have to deal with bullies at school because of his small stature. I just want to protect him."

Derek nodded, appreciating her protective nature. "I get that completely. That's why I think it's important to support him. He just needs a little boost."

Just then, she called out, "Ethan! Dinner's ready!"

He appeared in the doorway, his eyes bright with anticipation. "What's for dinner?"

"Mac and Cheese," she replied, then turned to Derek, her tone apologetic. "I'm sorry, but I don't have enough for you. I hope that's alright."

"It's totally fine," Derek assured her, waving off her concern. "I have food at home."

He then reached into his pocket and pulled out the waiver, offering it to her. "And if you're okay with it, you can sign this so Ethan can start hanging out at the gym with me after school."

Ethan's face lit up at the mention of the gym, but his mom hesitated, glancing at the paper before meeting Derek's gaze. She wanted to trust him, but a flicker of uncertainty still lingered in her mind.

"I'll think about it," she said finally.

Ethan whined, "But Mom, I want to go!"

Before she could scold him, Derek interjected gently, "Hey, Ethan, you should respect your mom's decision. What she says goes."

Ethan's excitement dimmed a bit, and he nodded reluctantly, looking between the two adults. Derek gave him a reassuring smile, hoping to ease the tension in the room.

After their conversation wrapped up, Derek smiled at Ethan's mom. "Thank you for talking with me. I appreciate it." He turned to Ethan, whose disappointment was palpable. "I'll see you at the gym soon, buddy," he said, giving him a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

"Okay," Ethan replied quietly, his enthusiasm dulled but still hopeful.

Derek waved goodbye as he stepped out the door, feeling a mix of emotions. The interaction had gone well, but he couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty about how Ethan's mom would ultimately respond.

Once he was home, Derek settled into his evening routine. He started by cooking a simple dinner, the aroma of sautéed vegetables and chicken filling his small kitchen. After he cleaned up, he prepped for the next day, laying out his clothes and packing his gym bag with care.

Finally, after a long day, he sank into his couch and fired up his gaming console. He joined his buddies for a round of Call of Duty, their voices crackling through his headset as they strategized and bantered. It was a welcome distraction, allowing him to unwind and forget the lingering worries about Ethan and his mom, if only for a little while.

The next day at the gym, Derek was deep into his back workout, the weights heavy but manageable as he focused on his form. He felt the satisfying burn in his muscles, lost in the rhythm of his routine. Just as he finished a set and wiped the sweat from his brow, he noticed Liam approaching, a grin on his face and a familiar figure trailing behind him.

"Look who came by with a signed waiver," Liam announced, gesturing to Ethan, who stood there beaming with excitement.

Derek's face broke into a wide smile at the sight of the boy. "Hey, Ethan! You made it!"

Ethan bounced on his feet, his eyes sparkling. "I can hang out with you today!"

"Absolutely," Derek replied, feeling a rush of enthusiasm. He turned to Liam, who chuckled and clapped Derek on the shoulder.

"Alright, you two have fun. Just don't let him lift anything too heavy, alright?" Liam said with a playful wink, then turned to walk away, leaving Derek and Ethan to their workout.

"Ready to get started?" Derek asked, lowering himself to Ethan's level. "We're going to have a great time."

Ethan nodded eagerly, his earlier nervousness replaced by excitement. Together, they headed toward the weights, ready to dive into a workout tailored just for Ethan.

As the months passed, Derek and Ethan spent their afternoons in the gym together. They started slow, focusing on Ethan's form, lifting only the lightest weights. But as time went on, Ethan's progress was undeniable. He was soon lifting heavier weights, still nowhere near Derek's level, but impressive in his own right.

The other gym members, towering muscle-bound men with physiques that seemed god-like to Ethan, began to take notice. As Ethan's confidence grew, so did the attention from the others.

"Looking good, sport," one would say as Ethan finished a set.

"Nice work, chief!" another would call out, giving him an approving nod.

"Keep it up, big guy," a third would say, clapping him on the shoulder, which always made Ethan stand a little taller.

The small boy was earning their respect, and Ethan couldn't help but watch them with wide-eyed admiration, now feeling like part of their world.

Several times, Liam would stop by, checking in on Derek and Ethan. "Just making sure he's not hurting himself," he'd say with a lighthearted tone, but his gaze would linger on the boy longer than necessary. Then, almost as if catching himself, Liam would quickly snap his head away and walk off abruptly.

On a few occasions, Liam even joined in on their workouts, and Ethan was mesmerized watching the two men lift such heavy weights. He couldn't help but stare in awe as their big muscles flexed and veins popped with each rep. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Derek and Liam would slap each other on the back and joke around, making Ethan feel like one of the guys. They'd often turn to him, encouraging him with compliments. "You're doing great, kid!" Liam would say, ruffling Ethan's hair.

Liam would sometimes touch Ethan's muscles, playfully saying, "Look at you! You're really filling out!" Ethan beamed with pride, soaking up the attention and encouragement from the two larger-than-life figures he admired so much.

Over the months, Derek also made it a point to stop by Ethan's house for dinner at least once a week. He had become a familiar presence in their lives, not only as a mentor to Ethan but also as a friend to his mom. Their connection deepened, and Derek's steady, reliable presence became something they both came to rely on.

During these visits, Derek noticed remarkable changes in Ethan. The boy had grown more confident, his posture straighter, and his smile wider. He had developed a sense of pride in his progress at the gym, often sharing stories of his latest workouts and how he was able to lift heavier weights each week.

One evening, as they gathered around the dinner table, Derek turned to Ethan's mom. "I've seen a huge improvement in him," he said, gesturing toward the boy, who was animatedly recounting a funny moment from the gym.

She smiled, a look of warmth and pride in her eyes. "I've noticed it too. He seems so much more confident lately. It's like he's finally coming out of his shell."

Derek nodded, pleased to hear her observations. "It's all him. He's putting in the work, and it's really paying off. I think it's great for him—not just physically, but mentally too."

She looked thoughtful for a moment. "I'm so glad he has you in his life. I was really hesitant at first, but I can see how much this has helped him."

Derek felt a swell of satisfaction at her words. "I just want to support him. He deserves it." As they continued their meal, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and easy conversation, a testament to the growing bond they had all formed together.

That particular evening, as they sat around the dinner table enjoying their meal, Ethan's mom looked a bit more hesitant than usual. After a moment of silence, she cleared her throat, glancing at Derek with a thoughtful expression.

"I feel awkward asking this, but Eth
