Voices from other passengers chimed in from all directions, some sympathetic, others impatient.
"I'm so sorry. The baby overate and has an upset stomach. I'll just rub his tummy and he'll stop crying. Please bear with us," the woman holding the baby said, smiling politely at everyone.
Then, she shifted closer to a man beside her, still holding the baby.
But the baby's cries continued without stopping, and the atmosphere in the car grew increasingly tense.
Suddenly, the woman pulled the bottle away and, shockingly, clamped her hand over the baby's mouth.
The baby struggled even harder, and the woman looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown.
