Evelyn thought she could slip away quietly, but she'd barely taken two steps when Mr. Shaw, who had just hung up the phone, called out to her!
"Ms. Grant!"
Since she'd been spotted, she could only turn back awkwardly and offer him a smile.
"Mr. Shaw, you haven't left for the day yet?"
"Ah, almost!" Mr. Shaw looked awkward as well.
He wasn't sure if Evelyn had overheard something she shouldn't have.
Mr. Shaw couldn't even remember what he had just said to Mr. Sterling on the phone, so he quickly stopped her, intending to probe a little.
"Did you… need to see me about something?"
Evelyn could see he didn't seem to have anything important to discuss, yet he had suddenly stopped her for some unknown reason.
"Oh, I just wanted to ask you how your recent case is going!"
